    coolant additive

A lot of the "overheating" issues come from the back yard mechanics. Same with the oil pressure. Reason most vehicle manufacturers put in the idiot lights instead of gages, is for the simple reason to only fix something if the red light comes on. Give a guy a gage, and right away he thinks...

    coolant additive

I concur 100%. If there is an ongoing problem of getting too hot, more than likely the bike has not been maintained properly at all times. Some people get exited when it goes above the rivet. If it enters the thin red zone, that's a warning that something is not right. The factory could have...

    Front End

Shawn, I can see where you can get confused with all the various names on the list. Mikemax for example makes one wonder if the name is Mike or Max? We could use roman numbers...........nah, they're confusing too. Just kidding. It would be nice if others at least used their first names on...

nice day for a ride today.....

It was close to 80* in Cincinnati and took the bike out twice. It will probably freeze in a day or two again but gotta love this temp, especially with no humidity or bugs out yet. By the way, love what Buster did to bring the most used smilies where they are easily accessible. :thumbs up:

    new owner few questions

I don't think bending the cross-brace is a good idea. It will weaken it and also make it shorter. You would have to either buy a new one or find one at a junk yard from a later model Max.

    Front End

Clint, it's time to upgrade to stiffer springs. You can get RaceTech or Progressive. Unless you're into canyon carving and a lot more work, forget the emulators. Simplest is to just remove the old through the top and install the new springs and cut the preload spacers so they stick out 1/4 -...

    Birthday presents

:happybda: :band:  I'll have to agree with Randy on the wheels. Besides, we're refusing for your own good. Wouldn't want you to get that bling fever most get and then spend the baby's milk money on doo dads.:rofl_200:

    new owner few questions

Congratulation on your new ride. 10W40 is great. Any major brand will do. Filters are available at automotive parts places. For normal driving you won't need a lot of Rpm's and 2-3K is good for getting around and even less. At times the Max can get a little touchy on stop and turn...

    Enrichment circuit

Thanks for the come-back MarK. Have never used any additives in the gas. Right now it's running great but that possibility is always on my mind being out in noman's land and the carbs start acting up. Sync seems to be good and tried all the suggestions posted of 4K WOT etc. recently posted...

    Enrichment circuit

I've already done that Rusty and also lubed the tensioner. Bike has been sitting for two months and unlike the usual start-up, sitting on it, I had my hand on the carb and linkage and could feel two pops about a second after taking the choke off. Bike only has 10K on it and am just wondering if...

    Enrichment circuit

Started the bike today and let it warm up a bit. As the RPMs grew, I brought the choke lever up some and noticed a few pops in feeling the choke assembly. Could it be that the valves (?) in the enrichment circuit are sticking a bit and not sliding smoothly? That's what it felt like anyway...

The Vmax seat thread! The all seat thread!

Re: Lower seat Go for it Rob. I paid $150 to have my almost new stock seat re-done and didn't like it. Bought a sewing machine and some vinyl and went at it. Gel is the way to go because it spreads the pressure over a wide area. What's important is what you put between the gel and your rear...

    Pretty Wild Paintjob

Good find Buster. Personally I think it's way over the top where it's hard to tell what anything is. Wonder if he ever was in a hurry and got on it backwards?:confused2: :)

    new headlight?

I think it looks good, for what my opinion is worth. Anything looks better than those same old big ass round headlights that have been around for 100 years and everybody has. I think if you're going to spend money, get something futuristic looking because we're not heading back to the stone...

    Head Shake question

I guess your question was never really answered in full. The first thing to check is tire pressure. 40 lbs front and rear is in the ball park. The front wheel bearings should also be checked for looseness and lack of grease. Shaking the tire side to side should not detect any play. If it's...

    Head Shake question

It could be lots of things but mainly the bearings should be greased and re-adjusted. Check them out and if the races aren't grooved/show some wear and the ball bearings are in good shape, you shouldn't need to replace them. Grease, assemble correctly with proper preload and try it out. After...

    Vmax Grips

You're very perceptive and right on the money. The ProGrips can also be bought for 1" bars and are bigger in inside diameter naturally. It's still a bear to slip them over the stock grips but manageable with a little patience. I reversed them and slid the ends to the front and cut off the...
