So pumped, picking up my new (to me) V-max this afternoon.

Well, I've been watching the weather for days on end waiting for a warm enough, dry enough, rained enough the day before so there is no salt on the roads kinda day to pick up my new to me 2002 Max from the dealer. Although its a bit overcast right now, only 45* out, it's not suppose to rain at...

ok the gen 2 is srsly bad

A nice, real world example is that if a sedan needs 75hp to do 100mph, it needs 300hp to do 150mph, and 600hp to do 200mph. VMAX1260 - agreed, stoplight to stoplight is all about the rider - I messed with plenty of crotch rockets while on my Intruder1400, which put all of about 70hp to the rear...

    Daytona Supercross

Stewart has more than enough skill to dominate, but lacks the brains to see the big picture al la Ricky Carmiceal. Makes for inconsistency, but very exciting to watch. Good for Reed!

    Late winter ride

Man, you really make me want to get out there - I'm trying to stay of the salt, but the urge is approaching overwhelming levels. I vote for some high rez uploads to you-tube. And I'd love to see some launches

thinking about parting out my gen 1

What's the mileage - $4,000 seems like about the right starting place. I just paid $3,500 for my '02 with 19k on it, all stock except for the OE Sissybar and windscreen - both of which are already listed in the classifieds on here. I considered that a fair price with the shopping I did, there...

    Parked Vmax VS 96 Civic

Nice one - amazing how insurance can work out some times. This fall my wife got hit head on in our 1998 Grand Prix GTP - it was totalled, but we got more for it that we owed, bought an '06 Grand Prix GT (another supercharged one, they dropped the GTP in 2006 when the GXP came out). I hit a...

for the crafty guys with small fingers!

Wow, I though plastic models were tough, I can't imagine that. Rather play with the real thing.

Response to Mattness' burnout story - video inside, Metzler Marthon destoryed!

Now just imagine the response if you'd left a cloud hanging in the air. That's an expensive cloud though, I wouldn't have done it with a tire that had any usable life left in it.

    help with a R1 motor

Between the knocking, low compression, and intermittent cylinder dropping, I think you might as well go ahead and pull the head - clearly something is amiss and you could be risking some real damage if what-ever valve is malfunctioning ends up making contact with the piston.

    help with a R1 motor

+1 on starting with a quick plug read - leaned out or oil will tell you plenty. Audible knocking sounds like a pretty big problem, I'd also take a look in the oil to see if there is any evidence of metal shavings. As for the increased performance, when you changed the belt perhaps you've got...

Response to Mattness' burnout story - video inside, Metzler Marthon destoryed!

It would carry the front wheel from a roll in first. Guys that had as much or more in the motor than I did with stock ride height could coax it up in second as well, I was lowered and it wouldn't. It was a pretty decent bike for a Vtwin, light weight helped it leave the line strong with all...

Response to Mattness' burnout story - video inside, Metzler Marthon destoryed!

I saw the burnout story at the dealship I thougth I should share this burnout with you guys. This was the bike the preceeded the Vmax, a 1400 Intruder twin. It was a pretty snotty Vtwin bike, I could leave the line and run through about 50mph to surprise anybody out there, but then horsepower...

    Stoppies possible?

Agreed - I think good seat time riding on dirt will make anybody a better, more confident street bike rider. When you've been at, and over the limit, on a regular basis, it's a lot more comfortable, and becomes more manageable. Front end coming up, rear end sliding around, front tire washing...

so it hit 64 degrees here, i had a vmax adventure.

I caught some heat for a burn-out before - it was definitely worth. I'll post a video for you when I get home, I think you'll appreciate it.

rons09 - Great guy. Props to the Vmax community in general.

Got to meet up with Ron (rons09) last night. First of all, thank you again for the grab-rail, the piece was in excellent shape and the price couldn't be beat. Secondly, thanks for the conversation, it was nice just shooting the breeze a bit, doing a little Vmax learning, and getting to know...

    Worth it?

Not that you probably haven't heard enough, but I just paid $3,500 for my mint '02 with 19k of light cruising miles. Overpriced, and screams scam/basket case.

New (to me) Vmax, some parts to come off. OEM Backrest value? Windscreen value?

That's tempting, I already tend to ride earlier in the season than most folks around here, and I was still touring the Finger Lakes in November. I just have a hard time with it aesthetically.
