The only mods on the 85 are Keihin flat slide carbs, UFO 4 into 2 exhaust and strapped front end. It also has a really heavy 17" max daddy rear wheel which I don't know if it helps or hurts.

I added a younger siblings to the bunch yesterday. I rode an 150 mile loop on it today. I live in the N.C. mountains so alot of good curves to play on. I really enjoyed the handling and great power delivery. I think I'm in love, "again"....lol!

Has anyone ran solid struts on the rear for dragstrip use and what where the advantages and disadvantages of doing so?

Will the early style triple clamps accommodate the larger diameter 93 and up first gen forks and will the early dual piston calipers bolt to the lower fork legs and still align properly with the rotors? I would like to upgrade my forks yet retain my powder coated clamps and current front wheel...

You may want to look into performing a leak down test to help you pin point the source of the compression loss before tearing into it. In the absence of an actual leak down gauge you could also induct compressed air into the cylinder via the spark plug hole and listen for leak by at the intake...
