Conrod failures in terms of the small end are not rare, and there are instances of it happening with an associated 'knock' usually on No 3 cylinder. There is/was a conrod modification to address small end issues advised by Exactrep (UK).

I seem to remember that there was in fact a Dyno Stage 3 kit (as well as St 1 and St 7) made in the 90's, but then dropped from their sales products. That is unless my memory is failing ?

Even Yamaha recognised something was wrong, and altered the supply pipe from (i think) 2001 onwards

When my left hand one was off I fitted a 10mm spacer plate to bring it out as far as the right hand one was, as for some bizarre reason they were not spaced equally across the centre line of the bike :rolleyes:
