Wow. Thanks! Thats the kind of insight I was looking for. I forgot to mention I also replaced the boots below the carbs. They were so cracked that I'm surprised it hadn't burnt a piston or two. I also check the compression to make sure it hadn't melted any rings or something terrible like that...
