    Check all of your rubber boots. Both on carbs an on the V-Boost. You could have a vacuum leak on those.

    Yamaha has a long history of weak second gear, in certain models. Of course, the 1-2 shift does tend to be the most violent, when banging it hard. Yamaha uses helical cut gears a lot, in their transmissions. They shift a bit smoother, and tend to be a tad quieter, compared to straight cut gears...

    Autolite makes a very good racing plug, that has a fine wire electrode, like you described. I used to run them, in my old 1979 Suzuki RM400. That bike would gas foul plugs, if you didn't keep it up on the pipe. Once I went to those Autolite racing plugs, the gas fouling stopped. And it just ran...

    NGK spark plug numbers

    Resistor plugs are generally for reducing radio/stereo interference. They are not for performance. If you're not using a sound system on your bike, then don't bother with a resistor spark plug.

    With NGK, the lower the number, the hotter the plug heat range. The higher the number, the colder the plug heat range. For instance, my old Suzuki TS250 ran an NGK B8ES. That was the factory installed spark plug. If I wanted to go one range hot, I would go to a B7ES. If I wanted to go one range...
