Hey John, sorry for the late reply, I haven't been on this forum much lately.
Happy to hear that you like the conversion. It is a fun mod and it doesn't hurt that it's low tech, simple and easily reversible.
Nothing wrong with a Can Am at all.
I almost bought one last year. Wife was thinking of selling her bike and going back to being a passenger, so the Can Am was a good choice for us for long distance riding.
In the end, she decided to keep riding her bike, so I didn't get the Can Am...
If you don't plan on being in the club, than don't go for the ride.
You and wife have been invited because they see something that they want and am sure it's not you.
You don't get invited into their world as an outsider, unless you have value to them.
I have one installed on my wife's Yamaha Radian. It is made by EFM Autoclutch - http://efmautoclutch.com/
The unit has approx. 24,000 miles on it and we had zero issues with it.

I have tried a few windshields over the years and currently have a Memphis Shade Hellcat for colder temps and long distance riding and have a MRA Speed windscreen for daily riding.
The MRA shield is on the bike 90% of the time and does a good job keeping the wind of your chest and head.

You (we) are not part of the problem. As consumers, we create trends based on current day circumstances.
The emerging trend is e-commerce primarily due for the convenience that it offers a population that has become too busy to go shopping in large stores/malls.
E-commerce has been ten...
Retail is a vicious business that changes quickly and unfortunately Sears has not kept up with the times.
The Sears store here in Sudbury has looks pretty much the same today as it did 40 years ago.

Been considering buying a sport touring bike lately. I will still keep my Vmax, but my old bones are telling me that I need something more comfy for long rides.
Been looking mostly at used FJR1300, but have not found one yet. I came across a 2008 Suzuki Bandit 1250s that is factory equipped...
Went for a 400 mile ride today and noticed at about 2/3 the way into the ride that the left side of the rear wheel was splattered with oil. :bang head:
Looks like my diff started to leak, but not sure exactly where it's coming from yet. Cleaned it up as best I could and continued on back...
I switched to the eBay one a couple of years back due to the stock one getting perched by a rock.
I had no fitment issues, other than bending a couple of brackets. I painted it prior to install.
Personally, I don't find that it performs any better than the stock one, but also not any...
Throwing my rims as an option for your rim choices.
Front rim is a stock 85 five spoke rim and the rear is a combination of a Vrod outer rim mated to the Vmax hub.

There's too many Gen 1 Vmaxes out there to make them valuable/collectable.
Personally, I would modify it the way you like it and ride the hell out of it.
