I've got a set of 4-2 Mark's headers on the way, and am looking at the Level One Racing exhaust for the satin black GP mufflers.

http://www.leveloneracing.com/

The two lengths I am considering are their two.six.zero (10.25") or the three.three.zero (13") canisters. All of their mufflers have a 2.25" core.

I have seen on this forum that a lot of guys seem to have cut down their canisters to around 12", is this for performance reasons, or just better sound? I like the idea of a shorter canister, but don't want to go that route if it will adversely effect the performance, or make my ears bleed. LOR says the 10.25" canister will be around 104-105 db while the 13" will be around 100 db. Does anyone have any db readings from exhausts they have so I have some sort of comparison? I am running Supertrapp slip-ons right now with 8 discs and open end caps, but I can't find anything on what the sound level is for that particular setup.

Sound! What's the ID of the hole?

Mines 2.25" and 14" and it's WAY loud. I wouldn't buy smaller than 13".

My 14" cans are louder than your ST's but not by a ton. IMO the 14" look better as the max is a big bike and can pull off a bigger can VERY well. Otherwise they look a little odd.

You'd be VERY happy with the sound then. As long as it's a similar core design as Marks.

Edit: It is...

Yea, I've seen those. The clamshell type seem to be on the lower-end exhausts. I noticed the spiral tube on the Two Brothers. Does that actually cause the exhaust gases to spiral, or just look that way simply because of how the tube was put together? Seems like it may have a better scavenging effect if the gases were made to spiral through the canister.

I bought some pipes from Mark last year. In talking with him about this same issue he said to pick the muffler outlet diameter based on how loud you want it. The larger the louder. Pick your muffler length based on how you want it to look. He said shorter is louder but not by a huge amount.

I bought 2.5 outlets and 12" mufflers and did not think it was earbleeding but, thats just my opinion.

Just ordered the 13" LOR canisters. I'll be biting my nails until I get it all installed so I can hear them. Thanks for everyone's input!

I'm sure they'll sound almost (if not) identical to the the Marks. The look is going to be a lot nicer though.

Is he custom making the pipes to fit the cans?

Mark said the headers would have 2" pipe for the slip-on fit, so I just had LOR make the inlets with a 2" ID. Although I think I am going to make a small mid-pipe so I can angle the pipes up slightly more. Haven't decided yet, I'll have to see them on the bike first.

If anyone is interested, here are the different places I found that will custom make your GP style canisters, or supply the parts to make your own canisters. Level One was the best priced option at $229 per canister. Both Racefit and Bodis wanted around $450 per canister, and the JC Exhaust was close behind them. I think PJ Engineering was around $250 - $300 per canister by the time you get all the parts to build them. I never got a response from MTC. If I had the $$$, I would have gone with the Bodis GPX2.

Can i make a question what happens if you make the headers longer... I mean if i want to not to have the cannisters left and right and want to have then under seat for example..?? How it will affect the engine?
