AFTER THINKING ABOUT WHY THE V-MAX HAS SUCH LOW OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE , THE SHOP MANUAL SAYS 3.6 LBS. HOT AT 1,000 RPM'S ! I WAS THINKING , THE MAX DOES NOT HAVE HYDRAULIC LIFTERS , SO IT DOESN'T REQUIRE A LOT OF PRESSURE , SO I LOOKED IN THE SHOP MANUAL & IT HAS A "TROCHOID" OIL PUMP , I GOGGLED THAT & INDEED , THESE ARE VOLUME PUMPS , THE SMALLEST PUMP THIS COMPANY MAKES IS 1.2 - 1.4 LITERS A MINUTE , VOLUME & PRESSURE ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS AS MOST OF YOU KNOW , SO THIS IS MY CONCLUSION AND A FEW OTHERS THAT I HAVE TALKED TO ( DANNYMAX ) AND ANOTHER FRIEND OF MINE . THE MAX IS GETTING A " DELUGE " OF OIL ( MEGA VOLUME ) ! JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF PRESSURE AT IDLE DOESN'T MEAN ITS NOT GETTING A TON ( DELUGE ) OF OIL !...:punk: " NOW I CAN SLEEP "...:rofl_200:

SOMEBODY'S GOT TO HAVE AN OPINION ON THIS , NO ?...:confused2: AND I THOUGHT I'D GET RIPPED APART ON THIS THEORY !...:biglaugh:
 
It's a good theory. It is something that has always bothered me, pretty much 0 pressure sitting in traffic, not like it makes a lot of noise or anything, but i usually hold throttle up little to keep pressure reading about 5 psi.
 
Look in the 'oil window' when you start the bike. It's nearly full before start-up and drains down below the window within a few seconds after start-up. At idle you can see oil splashing by but the oil level stays below the window.....all that oil is being pumped somewhere!

Now, if at idle, the oil window is full, then there is prolly an oiling issue.
 
Volume is only one key element. You have to still have some pressure to keep the bearings alive.

NO DOUGHT , MY POINT IS JUST , NOT NEARLY AS MUCH PRESSURE AT IDLE IS NEEDED WITH THE V-MAX ENGINE , AS AN ENGINE WITH HYDRAULIC LIFTERS , IF THE MAX ENGINE HAD HYDRAULIC LIFTERS , IT WOULD SOUND LIKE A SINGER SEWING MACHINE AT IDLE INSTEAD OF A ROCK TUMBLER ! "LOL" " LOL ":rofl_200::rofl_200:

Odd........I can't recall a single time over the past 24 years where I've felt even the slightest inclination towards checking my oil pressure while going 135 MPH. Not once.

haha that was my thought when i read that....

maybe i haven't had a sustained 135 mph run yet where i've had enough time to look down...
 
USUALLY , I'LL JUST GLANCE IN THEM ONCE OR TWICE TO SEE HOW FAR BACK THE COPS FLASHING LIGHTS ARE FADING !...:rofl_200::biglaugh::punk:

Also in the tucked in postion I am in during them speeds my face is within 3 inches of the oil pressure gauge to where no head movement is needed to view the gauges.

Well, just for arguments sake, let's say there's 10% speedometer error at 173 mph. Working the numbers we find that you were just going a mere 156 miles an hour.............!!!



Sounds pretty friggin' fast to me!!!:punk:

Oh yes I remember rt18 very well it was my first time being chased while on my GSXR which started in East Brunswick near the 18 and 1 intersection as I was heading south. I was south of Freehold before I was able to lose site and get off an exit what a run! anyways.. Used to always hang out on rt 18 it was the highway to cruise Saturday night to drag races from light to light.
Really I am a speed junkie and get a rush by seeing values (MPH) I have always been like this back to whenI always had them cheepo speed odometers on my BMX bikes and at one time I rigged up one on my 1980 Kawasaki KD100 which wasnt accurate and was about 20 MPH LOL but that made it all the better !! Every vehichle I ever owned I had to see the needle atleast be pegged or go past the last number always gave me a rush hell even Ol Fortune Cookie I had to figure a way to peg the speedo which is 80 I believe so I rode it to this long steep hill so I could peg the speedo,

Guess thats why I love gauges so much just seeing the needle and where its at... Yeah I know its corny but **** it I like it ! LOL

IT WAS JUST THE WAY THAT HE SAID IT , PISSED ME OFF !
