    shimming the needle

I have some carb needle shim washers that I use every now and then on other projects. Question- can I slide 1 thin shim under the needle and get away with it and not cause any other problems ? I am running stock jets. Will it help on top-end pull, or is it just a bunch of trouble ?

    needle shimming

If I modify my stock exhaust on my '96 Max ( either drilling the endcaps or a 1 inch hole in center baffle ), I understand this will lean out my motor & kill my low/midrange . Can I simply simply shim the needles ( maybe about 1 mm ) to make this up , or is it much more involved than that ?
