I was wondering the option of calipers for my 05 wither r1, bussa, or what ever direct bolt ons and ones that require brackets that someone already makes i allready know fjr or bussa master are a good idea to go with the new calipers any responce would be great.

R1 calipers are a direct bolt on, no adapters required. Busa 6-post require an adapter.

Any year of r1 calipers and does anybody make the adapters for the busa calipers to work?

Not any year R1 but only the earlier years that are not radial mount. Sean Morley makes adapter for Busa calipers. I wish I would've waited and got the 6-pots instead of my current 4-pot Tokico's.

Contact Sean Morley I am pretty darn sure he has some direct bolt on 6 piston calipers for the late models unless he has gotten rid of them by now.
I should know I gave them to him :biglaugh:

Cheers

I can lock them up with single piston honda rebel calipers too. It's not about whether you can lock them up. It's about having control. Most sportbike have 10 times more brakes then can possibly be used if fully applied. It's about having control of the brakes. The better/stronger the brakes then the more able you are to feel what's going on. Ever wonder how they do stoppies like they can. It's all about control.

I do agree that the masters can help too but until you have tried a six piston setup I think you don't have a clue what your bike is capable of.

I have not tried to make any six piston adapter brakets to the newer forks but there are a few six piston calipers that will bolt on. The bad thing is they are rarer and mostly overseas.

+1 Sean. One of the over seas 6-pots Sean was talkign about are Harrison Billet 6's.

I have definitely researched this with a many of v max owners...this is what i have learned.

Any blue pot calipers (non-radial) from R6's and R1's (years vary 2000-2003 usually) will direct bolt on to a 1993-2007 MAX.

Morley makes an adapter for hyabusa calipers for pre-93' MAX's and he knows what master cyliders to use.

The six pot calipers will be the best route, with a good master cylinder too. But for the 93-07 MAX this is a project few have taken on but some have done it.

I wish I would of waited and did the above myself or got the adapters/supplies from someone etc...but I have no patience and I am not comfortable with making my own adapters.

I purchased a set of calipers, lines, master cylinder and reservoir off a 2002 R1 from EBAY. The R1 lines are too short. The calipers direct bolt on, the master cylinder fits the handle bar. I just need to make an L bracket for the reservoir cup and get braided lines for a VMAX (not an R1 they will be too short)...yes the banjo bolts will fit the master cylinder end and the caliper end...I heard routing is a pain. One end of the braided lines have curved banjo bolts and the other straight...I was told that the curve ends should go to the caliper and the straight to the master (by a guy with a 2005, R1 calipers, russel braided 2 line kit, stock master, HH pads)...

I will post pics and a detailed report on how everything goes in about a week or so.

Some guys say that the brake lever is very stiff with R1 calipers (6 pots also) and stock master...some say it is fine. I will use what was made to go together.

Some say the stock setup with braided lines and HH pads only is just fine. I don't want just fine I want completely hands down way better brakes.

I believe the 6 pot w/ master is the best setup but I also believe that the R1 upgrade is the happy median as far as time, money and results.

I actually have no idea what actually will happen until I make the change so stay tuned for another great opinion from me LOL.

Once again my setup will be:

2002 R1 calipers and master cylinder and reservoir with homemade L bracket

Probably russel braided 2 line kit from dennis kirk for a 2007 v max

HH pads for 2002 R1 calipers

bead blasted stock rotors

and ummmmmm oh yea brake fluid would help

I have had no issues with R1 calipers and stock masters. Also, have used R1 calipers with FJR masters (so you can keep the mirror). We have even done what you are going to do with R1 master. They all work well. We have not used Bills custom lines as the stock braided line for the Vmax works just fine for us (they cross in the back of the wheel but that's the only deviation from stock). We have used the 2 line setup and the 3 line setup with fine results.

We have put on 6 piston brakes on the newer bikes but for most the increased leverage from the better master on the 4 piston is very good. We have even used FJR masters with stock calipers which worked quite well.

Eventually I may look into using a much larger rotor diamter as there is a way to get much better braking leverage. The problem is the adapter will have to be thicker since the distance from center will increase.
