Wheels!!! Lighter, Wider wheels. 17's or 18's both give you a much better choice of rubber to put on the road (a 17" rear will give you the best choice since almost every real sportbike made runs a 17" rear). Either way it will improve your bike in every catagory. Less rotating mass is good!! The bike will accelerate better, handle better, and stop better.
Not the cheapest mod but IMHO the single best bang for the buck mod you can do.

What's the general price range for this? I'm assuming tires will be $100-200 each?

Besides new wheels what else would need to be done/bought? You can't just buy different size wheels and stick them on, right?

If you buy wheels already made/altered for a Max then they are generally a bolt on and go deal. There are some services that alter the stock wheels with which you might be required to send yours in as a core. As an example, you can get the 18" Carrozzeria wheels for around 1500.00-1700.00 then add radials for another 250.00-300.00. These bolt on using most of the oem hardware from your old wheels with no mods needed. There are cheaper ways to get aftermarket wheels but not many are as light. There are also some 17" wheel alternatives but they tend to look too small in my opinion and lower the final drive ratio a bit too much.
