To all that have 17's

what tires are you using?

im not looking for the softest stickiest or the hardest best wearing, looking for something in between.

something that doesnt wear prematurely or irregularily due to the vmax weight but sticks well.

I'm running a 190/50R17 Michelin Pilot Power. Seems to be doing well, but i've only put 500 or so mi on it since i've converted to the 17". I've run them on ZX-12's and Busa's with good results.
Doubt there will be an issue with weight...

I've used the Metzler (can't remember the model) that was issued for Huyabusa's. It has it's own part number as well as the normal issued one. I think it's made a little tougher to take the extra weight and power the busa puts out. It's about as close a weight to our bikes as you are going to get.

Pirelli Diablo Corsa are my current set of rubber.

Very happy with these and I'd rate them the best all round tyre I've had.

Sean,
Was it the Mich Pilot Sport HPX?

The Pilot? Sport HPX tire is specifically designed for heavy, large-displacement hypersport bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa, Kawasaki ZX-14 and BMW K1200S.

that is what i have, the front wore pematurely and on one side. also didnt like the way it handled, the turn in felt a little lazy. so i was considering another brand of tires but i only have like 500 miles on the tires, so rear is still like new. hate to buy a pair. just might buy another front.

Gleno,

how many miles do you have on your Rosso's?

what other 17's have you used on the max?

how have they wore?

have they maintained their shape? any flat spots down the middle?

Birdoprey,

are you using the standard PP's or the 2ct?

give us an update on you tire wear after a couple thousand miles

vmax tends to be hard on the front tires, so im curious to how these work out.

PP's and Pirellis Diablos are the two im considering.

I refuse to buy shinko for everyday riding, maybe OK for the strip. those things just square off way too much and turn in is very poor compared to others.

Metzeler Sportec M3s ...Good traction..good wear...was also going to try the Michelin 2ct but heard the middle wears out quicker and to go with pilot road or power (can't remember which) which has a harder/longer lasting middle patch

I've run the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Radials front and back last time. I think they had around 15,000ks on them by the time they were stuffed.

The back tyre didn't last that long. When it was near the end of its run it started to wear very quickly down the centre tread and eventually did show some case distortion at the steel belts. The belts hold the heat and distend the tyre wall. This happened on the last two hour run on a high speed highway. It's hard to tell how much tread is left because the centre of the tyre has no tread pattern or rubber depth gauge.

The front tyre showed it's use by date when I felt it starting to slip a bit. Inspection showed it had a ridge midway between the centre tread and tyre edge.

They performed well and I was very happy with them.

The Pirelli's are basically the same as the Metzeler Z6 (Pirelli now owns the Metzeler brand or Metzeler owns Pirelli I can't remember which) but have a better tread pattern and they have redesigned the steel belt placement to eliminate any heat related distortion as the tread wears down.

I have about 5,000ks on them.

You can put your confidence in them.

If I may, I'd recommend one of the modern "Sport Touring" tires. They are Z rated radials, built for heavier weights and higher temps associated with long distance high speed travel. The Dunlop Road Smart would be my choice right now.
