I just
pickup up a 97 vmax. There is no spark on any cylinder. I tested the primary coil resistance and I can up with anywhere from 2ohms to 3.4 ohms. Does that mean the tci is bad?

This can be a few things before you go after the TCI unit. There are other circuits that will also prevent the coils from firing. Power on circuit, engine on switch, crank trigger sensors, ignition fuse, clutch lever switch and kickstand switch circuit. Confirm the power on voltage is present feeding the TCI. I would suggest if you can have someone loan you a known good TCI to test and/or rule out that will give you a fast way to confirm, also you might want to get your hands on a V-max wiring diagram for your year bike. 85~89 or 90~07.

It can't be a fuse or any of the switches mentioned. In those cases the engine wouldn't even turn over. I'd check the p/u coil.

Got my replacement TCI and that fixed my problem. Got the bike running after sitting for 2 years. Now I just need to fix the brakes and fork seals and she will be road worthy :)

Great Work! There is some good info on here to help with your repairs if you need it. Hope to hear you get it out on the road and riding soon!

Good to hear that a Vmax is coming out of semi retirement! Sounds like it will be on the road shortly, and you'll have the satisfaction of doing it yourself! :thumbs up: :thumbs up:
