Interesting article and some insightful comments from those more in the know about these things than myself, but 68 hp @ 3000 rpm doesn't seem a lot to haul a couple of people and their luggage. The torque should help I suppose but it's disapointing that Indian / Polaris didn't take the opportunity to do something a little more original than a yawn inducing V Twin.

But then I'd have to ask: Why would Indian want to build the same motorcycle for over 20,000 years? Oops, I guess HD is trying the same thing now...at least, they all look alike to me so far.

I think they probably did a calc to arrive at that figure, rather than have something released by Indian. If it has 100+ ft/lb of torque from off-idle to 4000 rpm, I am sure that it will move-out pretty-well. It doesn't need that much h.p. if it has lots of torque everywhere. You never wring these bikes out to 5000 rpm, there's no point. Ride the wave of torque.
