I know of only one recall for my 85 which was a front axle I think.

Where can I get info on all the recalls on the 85?

I think a factory "recall" ( a quiet one) went out in 85 for the 2nd gear issue. I think you had to ask for it at a dealership which is why I put quotation marks around the word recall.

Didn't Yamaha sell a fix it kit specifically for the 2nd gear issue. In fact, there is one for sale on ebay right now with all the upgrade parts. Check it out.:worthy:

I did hear from someone on here back in 85 getting a recall letter from Yamaha.
Has anyone have one of these and could post it on here , it would be worth a look:ummm:

Im wondering why I didnt recieve the recall. Bastards.. And what I can do about it.:confused2:

yup. Bought it brand new spring of 85

Call Yamaha comsumer relations. See if they will update your trans for free anyway.

Finally got around to calling Yamaha comsumer relations. Talked to a friendly guy named Mitch who said Yamaha never had a formal recall on 2nd gear, but he had heard it was a weak point. recalls are honered for 10 years.:biglaugh: guess Im s.o.l.

Im guessing who ever had a 2nd gear failure and complained got it fixed for free in the 80's. But the rest of us who never had a problem weren't told. But I do remember popping out of second gear a few times..:damn angry:I hope the easy side access fix clears that up.

He also said the wiring harness under the seat had a issue. The seat rubbing..:confused2:

:punk: Hey, my dealer fixed mine in 85. Went in for a service, he kept it about a week, said he fixed the problem with second gear? I didn't have a problem but he fixed it for free. Later, Spur

Thanks for rubbin it it..:spanka:

:confused2: Hey Rebar, I guess news took longer to get back to Ohio in the 80's, Ha Ha, Spur

Never heard about the seat thing but that makes sense to me. The later seats all have a dimpled area right after the "tongue" which I always wondered why the seats were a bit different. Will have to really look at one this next time.

:confused2:Hey, I don't read to well, I'm old, and was in High School during the 60's. News took along time to get to Iowa too I guess. Wee, Spur

I bought it in Connecticut when I was in the coast guard. Will always tick me off.. some got the 2nd gear fix and some didnt.

I think they were fixed by mid production run so not all of them needed it.
