Another radial tire question

I just bought an RC wheel simular to the UFO "max daddy" wheel. 18 inches, and 5.5 across. I know with radial tires, you need to keep the same "kind" of tires....IE a Touring tire front and rear, or a track tire front and rear.

I will be keeping my stock front wheel, so I'm limited as to the tires that I can find for that. Do both tires have to be from the same manufacturer?

I have a Metzeler in front and an Avon in the back and no ill handling effects that noticed.

Do you have a notched swingarm? The 180 won't fit with an 18" wheel unless the wheel is considerately offset to the right. My 18" wheel with a 170 tire had to have the washer swap.

180 tire, no notched swing arm, does have an offset, but not real bad as you can see in the pic.

I ordered this thru Sean. He said that a 180 would fit. I can always move the washer if i need just a bit more room.

Sorry, I was responding to the original question. He mentioned 180 tires in the last part of his post. What size is your rear tire? Looks like a 160.

I put the Avon storm on the front & Avon venom on the rear, same tires in your link with no problem.

On my literbike, I noticed differences in handling when I mixed manufacturers. It's probably even more-important w/radials because of the differences in radial construction giving different 'feels' underway and dynamically.

If you have a 'sticky' front & a harder rubber rear to try & increase rear tire longevity, I could see where you could have a dangerous combo, as the front would stick better and the rear would want to break-loose sooner.

Same here. Great combo.

With 18's you'll have a tough time matching tire "types"

The Storm is a sport touring tire
The Venom and Cobras are Cruiser tires

I'm on my third rear Venom, whoever says Avons are slippery I don't get that statement.

Lots of drag strip passes and lots of trips to the twisties and no ill effects I ever noticed.
