I'm new to the 85 max i got but not new to bikes.. and in obtaining info for my 85 carb project..it appears that most of the any aftermarket stuff is listed for 86 and up??@#$.
I was going to get one of those 'kits' that have bunches of o-rings and the float bowl gasket and needle valve assembly. They seem to be cost effective. then add the choke chamber gasket..the jet block gasket and whatever jets from YAMAHA that I think can't be cleened or are suspect. The bike has sat for 25 years with fuel in it hahahahha.. It's not the worst I ever redid but it's close.

SO can I get a k&L econo kit if it says 86 up? DOOOHHHH????

Don't buy the kit if you want the carbs to work right. You could get the kit and only use the o-rings for the float bowls. Not much else is worth a crap. Any yes, all years interchanged.

take 'em apart and order what u need from sean there. he won't steer you wrong. some of the stuff i'm sure he even has used in good condition.

When I did my carbs ('86 lol) I did the same - take apart, check what needs renewing, order genuine OEM (always best from Sean) and be happy 4eva after.

And yes - carb wise - '85-'07 is the same.

YEP i just broke 'em apart, and the first carb showed signs of a wee bit of molestation haha altho everything came out and nothing is ruined. All I need are block gaskets and float bowl orings!! and "maybe" an o ring here or there. I had thought that the float needle seats came out hard but in looking farther, I now see that they press out and there are caps over them.. I'm probably going to leave them alone unless you think they should be removed????? I usually clean the seats if they look worn by twisting a pipecleaner onto them!!.
Thanks a million guys..info is all good

needle jets stay in, yea? i dunno haven't fully dismantled yet. take a look at NG's carb rebuild in the carb section as well.

yes I looked at tose threads VERY closely hahahha and spent a lot of time on 'em. I see NG did not remove the float needle seats either. I know theres an oring in there but i'm gonna leave well enuff alone!!

Shame on you guys telling a newbie that 85 carbs are the same as 85 carbs! You all know darn well that the 86 carbs are NOT the same, they are a year older! Sorry I could not resist. Sorta like , " No, I don't think your one **** is smaller than the other, if anything, one's bigger than the other!".
Relax, it's Friday!

bwaaaaa almost got me Pat.. but I don't care anyway.. I'm getting stuff by part # gen u wine Yamahammer for the app!!!!!
