Nice potpourri of cycling equipment ya got there. I sport a gen1 Venture too, they sure soak up the miles when the Vmax is just to high-strung for the long trips.

Welcome!

New to post

Well, been a member for sometime but haven't
posted, just lookin. 05 Max bought new in 04.
If I have something in question for the bike, I always
look here 1st. Forum is excellent for knowledge and experience.

Thanks to all that dedicate time for all of the novice looking for help.

Hello. Newbie on the forum from North Alabama. Do not yet own a Vmax. I currently commute on a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit 750, and plan to upgrade to a Vmax one of these days. I might keep the Shadow and continue to commute on it. I love the Vmax. I think because there's really not anything like it. I joined the forum so that I could gain as much knowledge as possible and know what to look for when the time comes to purchase. Thanks for the add.

Good find! As you go through checking out it's operational viability you will be able to find a How-to or at least a discussion on options of what to do. BTW what is the flooring that you have under the bikes?

New here, stole this for $1000 a couple of days ago. Been a dream bike for 15 years.

You need at least two bikes, its in the cyclist bylaws somewhere. I abide by the old-school bylaws which prohibit spousal input regarding vehicle sales or purchases. I have the Vmax for normal service and Harley killing, a Venture for the long haul and **** weather days, and a KTM smoker for the off road bliss i'm surrounded by. I think I have room for a Vstrom 1000 here somewhere. The Vmax is my favorite, but also the least practical. I wont justify having a bike I wont ride frequently, I'm not a collector but rather a rider. Keep the Shadow IMHO, also think of a stable mate for it so it wont become lonely while your out on the Vmax.

Here is one of many reads about pre-purcahse inspection. Most of it is just normal bike stuff but do pay attention to the 2nd gear issue that was a thing for the first couple production years. That one is an expensive fix but everything else is just normal motorcycle stuff like fork seals, maintenance history, tires yadda yadda. Oh, also check Vboost function, you should hear it cycle when the key is turned on.http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=14271

I see nice examples pass through CL in the 3-4k range. Good luck and welcome to all the new folks!

Hello,
I just joined to learn more about the VMax. I am helping a friend get his 1985 running again. It has been sitting in the garage since 1993. It is a great looking bike and I am looking forward to riding it. I just cleaned it up today. Replacing rusty fuel tank tomorrow. It is going to be fun.

Hello my name is Mike and I'm from Daytona Beach Florida. I recently bought my "every old guys dream bike" which is a 1986 VMax. I'm in the process now of making it perfect. Totally stock and not a mark on it. You guys on this board have been a great source of info.. Thanks you for that

Well folks I made the plunge into the world of VMAX :eusa_dance: I pick up my 2018 Vmax 1700 Monday the 22nd and I'm exhilarated, Excited and down rite petrified!! I've ridden smaller bikes 20 years ago (as a man not introduced to the fear of death) but I would never ride like that today :hmmm: Looking to install a PUIG shield for old man comfort... I would certainly appreciate some advice and courage in our conversation... Really appreciate all the reading and community :) I forgot to mention I may end up missing when my wife sees me ride up so if you suddenly see a vmax for sale in NC with 200 miles on it please help find me in the backyard :wave bye:

Hi peeps, sorry not been on the site for some time now, brought a motorhome and have been travelling a lot, I’ll try and get on the site more often

I'm not a new member, just haven't posted in a while. I sold my last Vmax to a guy in Texas. I have lots of parts left for a Vmax build, and body parts? May build another one as they are great. Just answering an email i recieved for the forum. You all have a great week, Spurs:punk::punk::punk:

hi
My name is hakan and im from turkey...im 49 yrs old male married with 3 kids..
i have finally bought a 1997 vmax, my other bike is 2018 honda africa dct. my vmax has a vin number starts 2EN, so its a french routed bike without vboost..Vmax is my old dream and while searching bikes for sale i didnt look for vboost, in fact i supposed all were 145 hp. after bought, i understood it is a non vboost type..at first i thought it is a classic bike and not matter its 98 or 145 hp. but now i want it full....so im looking for a mechanical vboost , no need for servo modulated cause i wont use that everytime..so anyone has an advise where can i find a manual booster? thx..

New member, here. My name is Kent and I'm from Oregon. I Just bought my first VMAX ('89)! I've been looking for several years, but finally found one that I could afford, when I had the cash. My other bike is a '99 R6. The Max should be a little more comfortable on longer, less twisty, rides. That, and I'm looking forward to the POWER :)

Probably going to need to take the carbs off and do a thorough cleaning (already looking at the threads). I don't know how long it's been sitting, but it's running rich (3 black plugs) and the idle drops off after warm-up, eventually choking itself out. Going to try seafoam first, but not getting my hopes too high.

Welcome to the new guys. I like the one, "I bought a $17K motorcycle without telling my wife, if you see a NC VMax bike w/200 miles on it, for sale, please come-look in the backyard for me!" If she spent $17,000 without telling you on something non-essential, how would you feel?

About the jardine exhaust, I'm not sure if they offered a full exhaust. I've had a set of their VMax slip-ons, very well-made. The stock exhaust is actually a good system, if a bit heavy. You may be fortunate-enough to encounter one of our members who is very-dedicated to trying to re-capture the performance lost from installing the Cobra 4-into-4 exhaust in-place of the stocker (you cannot, don't bother trying), and the Cobras will cost you about a 10% penalty in HP, and throttle response goes soggy, but if you like 'the look,' don't say you weren't warned.

The guy who has the projector 'alien'-looking dual bulb headlamp, be aware that most people find this light combo is worse-than stock for functionality, and our 5-3/4" stock halogen bulb isn't adequate for nightime riding within the performance attributes of the bike. I suggest upgrading to a 7" bucket/lens, and your choice of bulb. HID and LED conversions are popular choices, and a relay will help deliver a full 12 volts to the bulb for best illumination.

If you're going to own a Gen. 1 you need to learn how to disassemble and reassemble the carbs properly. If you find your tank has any rust, remove it, clean it thoroughly, and coat it properly before returning it to service, The pilot jets in the four jet blocks are particularly-prone to obstruction. Gas filters are cheap, change them every riding season. Member Damon here has a good instructional video you can order, well-worth the modest cost.

RaWarrior's sticky on new owner info should be read beginning to end. It will answer many questions you may have.

Sounds like your off to a great start with some cool bits and pieces. Glad you made it here, some damn find riding up on OR when the weather holds. It's no R6 but it doesnt take to much to make it handle acceptably for mild/moderate canyon carving.

Welcome!
