I'm headed out to Big Bend Park this next week, One of the most beautiful and DESOLATE places on God's not always green earth. It feels like being on the moon but lonelier. 800 miles away from Houston but still in Texas and also one of the most undervisited parks in America, you can go all day without seeing another soul.

Going by myself.

Zero cell phone coverage either.

Wish me luck I don't fuck up and end up being Coyote shit before anyone finds me.

I'll try to take lots of pictures.

later,

enjoy your trip and be safe.

how are the roads out that way? any twisties?

It's on my to do list, but so freakin far away..........

It is a great place. Be sure to ride by the Rio Grande from the park headquarters to Presidio and then on to Ft Davis to see the Observatory. It is a stunning ride! Also, fill up as often as possible as gas stations are scarce. Last time I went, I hiked to the South Rim which is a 14 mile round trip. (Seven miles up and seven miles down). As I was in my mid 50's, it was pretty tough. Won't be doing that again! There is a neat town (Lahitas (sp?)) that has a beer drinking goat that is hilarious. All in all a great trip.

Thanks for all the tips, actually I grew up about 70 miles from Ft. Davis (In Pecos)

Ft. Davis and surrounding area has plenty of good twisties and high speed sweepers.

I actually have run the River road (Ranch Road 170) from Presidio to Lajitas/Terlingua/Study Butte and it's considered the best ride in Texas although I think the Three Sisters in the Hill Country is a much better more challenging ride but the scenery is better on River Road if you like "Big Country" desert landscape.

Inside the Park itself there are a lot of high speed sweepers and some pretty good twisties here and there.

The gas stations/towns are pretty much ideally placed and around every 100 miles or so. Gotta fill up every opportunity.

In the park itself you can get in trouble pretty quick if you don't plan well. There is one gas station at the North visitors center/entrance and if you want to run all the roads in the park in the Max it takes some real planning since quite a bit of doubling back is involved.

The park is 800,000 acres / 1250 square miles which is bigger than Rhode Island.

I'm loaded up and leaving after work today.
