I just heard on another forum that Bill Warner passed away today after a crash, while attempting a speed record.

Rest in Peace Bill.

Here are some of his many accomplishments:

25 Land Speed Records (including):
* 2 Bonneville salt flat records
* 1 AMA national record
* 3 Track Records currently held at Goilad TX, Maxton NC, and Loring ME

Fastest motorcycle (non-liner) in the world at 278.6 mph
First-ever motorcycle (non-liner) over 275 mph
Only person to ever go over 250 mph on an un-faired (Naked) motorcycle.
Top Unfaired speed of 255.1mph in the mile
Fastest Motorcycle title at Goliad, Texas @ 278.6 mph - Track Record
Fastest Vehicle title at Maxton, North Carolina @ 272.374 mph - Track Record
Fastest Vehicle title at Loring, Maine @ 273.35mph - Track Record
Spring '09 & Fall '10 Texas Mile Shoot-Out Winner.
First un-faired (naked) all-motor bike to go over 200mph in the mile.
4th person in LSR 50yr history, to go over 200mph naked & naturally aspirated.

Goals: To keep going faster, but never faster than my guarden angel can fly.

Oh man, so sad to hear this! RIP Bill, condolences to family and friends. Another stalwart of the Vmax community lost to the endless motorcycle roads in heaven, keep it in the wind Bill!

Bill was a great guy, and incredible racer. He had run 311+ mph in 1.5 miles previously. He went 296 in the mile this morning. He was striving for 300 mph in the mile, but already leaps and bounds above the nearest competitor. We considered Bill our friend, and are saddened by the loss. Rest in peace, Bill...you will be missed.

That is an impressive list. The man was dedicated to the sport of insane speed. I imagine going out in an attempt at another record is just what he would have preferred.

Ironically, it was an attempt to break his old record at Loring that led to his passing. I remember one of my friends telling me about that run. He was up there and saw the pass. Said it was the most incredible thing he had ever seen.

It was his run that inspired me to want to set my own record there someday. When I do make it there, record or no record, I will make the run in his honor.

Where ever you are Bill, ride on, and ride fast, and watch over us as we ride.

Not Another one!

Just got news that fellow Floridian and Vmax promoter Bill Warner passed doing what he loved during an attempt at 300 MPH in Maine this Subday morning. Thanks to Thadd Stevens and good friend of Bill for posting this to me.
I don't know how to post up the FB link with the story. Sorry.
Bill was a solid gold guy in the Vmax community and will leave a void.
WOT Bill.

I talked with Bill a few times and he definetly was into anything fast. My condolences to his family and the Vmax world loses another Legend. Wow, this is a very rough week in Vmaxland. RIP Bill, may your records stand for a very long time! As I'm sure they will! Godspeed Bill, We'll all miss you.

Yea, another friend told me about this earlier today. **** deal for sure. Going to have to hang low and carry the .45 to fend off the reaper!

What worries me is they always say these come in three's... :rip:

I was told about this earlier in the day. I did a wheelie today at 100MPH for you Bill. Bill passed over chasing his dream which is a lot more than many do. His dream hasn't ended, it is just that now, he has no friction to deal with.
