Hi,

My son and I are going to do a ride early next week in New York. We figured we'd cross at Buffalo and since both my son and I are HUGE (literally) buffalo wing fans we thought we'd try some in the place where it all began. Any suggestions on where to get some really good wings in the Buffalo area? I only hope it turns out better than the time we tried Kentucky Fried Chicken in Harland, Ky!

Also hoping to visit the Finger Lakes. Never made it last year and I've heard great things about this area.

Cheers,

Blaine

Duffs or Anchor bar, Duffs is in Amherst, about 5 minutes from my house, on Sheridan drive, Anchor is down town in city, streets are horrible to ride on. Depending on what time your going i would be leary about parking a bike there. let me know when your around, i'll meet you at the bridge and "escort" you around the area if i can.

Thanks, Evil. Good to know where to go and what areas to avoid. I appreciate your offer to escort us around the area. I'm shooting for Monday or Tuesday 'cause looks like Sunday is going to be a wash. I'll post a message or pm you as soon as I can narrow down a day/time and hopefully we can hook up at the bridge. What time of day works best for you?

if it's monday or tuesday, i'm off from work after 5 is best, have my kids all day till than and don't have anyone to watch them, working all day sunday, so if it is sunday it would have to be after 7

Hi again,

Upon leaving Buffalo what would be the nicest route to the Finger Lake area? I was looking at HWY 5 or HWY 20 but am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Blaine

20, 5 and 20 merge for a while, not sure where they split up again, but parts of 5 are a pain in the ass.

oh yeah, what ever you do, don't order "buffalo wings" they are just called wings.

Good to know! They're just called wings here too. They come in a thousand flavours and degrees of heat. One of the flavours I have heard of is "Buffalo-style" which tastes they're covered in a mixture of Louisiana hot sauce and butter...pretty good stuff.

Thanks for the info on the 20. Hope to make the run in the next day or two. Any surprises in your local weather forcasts?

Thanks,

Blaine

nothing out of the ordinary rain that we've been getting almost everyday.

Looks like dry clothes and rain gear will dominate my limited luggage space. Might have enough extra room for a GPS!

Thanks 4 the weather update.

Heading out tomorrow for wings in Buffalo. Leaving the "schwa at 9am and hope to cross the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge around lunch time. From there heading out to Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway for a cruise and some pics. My cell phone is 905-410-7463 is anyone wants to hook up for a spin around the Finger Lakes area.

Cheers,

Blaine

Hey Guys!

First of all, New York is a beautiful state! I travelled 600 miles in two days with my son and it was a fantastic trip. The roads were nice and the scenery was awesome. Wherever we stopped the folks we met were friendly and helpful.

The wings were awesome. We had a pound at the anchor bar and then went straight to Duff's for a comparison. On this particular day I give the vote to Duff's for best wing! Holed up in Henrietta for the night.

Next day we took the 20 to the Cayuga Scenic Byway and went around Cayuga Lake. Next time I'll take more time and drink some of the local wine! Jumped on the 20A to Letchworth State Park and drove through the "Grand Canyon of the East". Fantastic! Then on to Niagara Falls for some Tacos at Colosso Taco: we were told these were really good so we just had to see if this was the case! Decided to go for broke and made the trip back to Oshawa that same night...a busy 2nd day!

Sorry I missed the post about the ribs...my son and I LOVE ribs and we passed right by Batavia! Hope to meet up with EvilD, DannyMax and anyone else on my next ride through the area. I know I probably only covered about 1% of New York so far! Pics to follow. Thanks again for the help and ideas, Guys...much appreciated!

Glad you had a good safe trip. I prefer Duff's too. Colasso, they rock! You need to see Letchworth in the fall when the leaves change.

Thanks again! I am hoping to make another trip to NY in the Fall. What other places would you recommend for a scenic ride? Would you recommend the Allegheny National Forest in NY and Pa?

Thanks,

Blaine

Yeah, very nice, watch the Buffalo news if you can, they tell you when and where foliage is at it's peak. Allegany is super nice ride, hit the casino on the way down, they have cabins in the park or you cant tent it. some hotels in the area too. Elicottville is on the way, great little town with a really nice brew pub

Glad to hear! Thanks, EvilD. Here's a couple of pics although I'm sure you've seen all this before!

Cheers,

Blaine
