Hey All,

My 97 has chrome Supertrapp exhaust on it. If I'm not mistaken, the 97's had black exhaust from the factory to match the rest of the bike.

These pipes have blued about half way to the rear...makes it look kind of sad. I've had wheels powdercoated before, and it makes me wonder if I can have the pipes powdercoated black to make them look more like the originals, and get rid of the bluing.

Anybody ever done it? Thanks for any help! :)

You'll want to ceramic coat them black. They'll last a long time that way.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure when the pipes turned blue...my guess was that the prev. guy ran it with the choke on for a long time.

I'll have to look into the ceramic coating...haven't dealt with it at all in the past.

Thanks! :)

might be able to trade someone with the supertrapp black ones too.

We can coat them or sell the ones you have on ebay and we can sell you brand new black ones. Price is on my website and you probably won't even be down much in price by the time it all washes out.

i assume u sold black supertrapps i sold you sean?

Rollie,

I like that tail section you've got...who makes that?

Does anyone know if there are any products out there that can reverse the bluing effect on pipes? I know they make it, but not sure of how good they work.

Here is a picture of my bike when I first got it home. You can see how the pipes have blued.

Sure... Any good welding supply shop should be able to get you pickling paste to remove the blueing. They also make machines to remove blueing after welding.

IMO you're better off coating them as they'll just blue again.

By the way... Your front fender's on BACKWARDS! The front is pointing back. Can safely say I've never seen that before....

haha thats funny on the front fender. no harm tho. only pita might be to have to drop the wheel to swap it.

anyways his rear fender is probably exactrep. do you have any idea if your highway pegs are something the PO fabricated? or if you can find out where he got 'em?

I was curious on the anti bluing more for the fact that if I sell them to buy already black ones, it would be nice to have them looking good when they were sold.

He he he...I knew it was on it backwards when I bought it, but when I questioned the guy, he thought it was right. He had rebuilt the forks a while back and reinstalled it the way it was.

Shortly after that picture was taken, the forks were rebuilt (PO didn't know how to put them back together properly, so they sank about 4 inches every time you hit the brake) and I reinstalled it the correct way. Unfortunataly, the header did something to it...bubbled it up like spray paint. I've sanded it down, now I have to decide whether I paint it, or try to find something that covers the first third of the fender that doesn't look silly. Can't justify spending the money to buy a new one though...

The highway pegs were his creation....he had shorter legs than even me, and made em' to fit him. I had actully thought of pulling them off, and finding some different ones that stretch you legs out a bit more. Even with my "long" 30" inseam, it isn't that far a reach. :)

if you pull 'em off let me know. i might be interested.

you'll probably want some OEM engine guards, they'd stretch you out better.

A good ceramic will hold up just fine. The golden color you see is pretty much normal. A quick hit with the fine scotch bright will shine them back up. Maybe even some blue away.
