Good day to all, couple of questions just tore down the carbs and cleaned them, as well as replaced pretty much everthing with the kits I received.

1. Once I install the carbs is there some sort of procedure I should be doing, since the float bowls are empty.

2. How often do you need to replace the gaskets/seals, I read that some guys are tearing their carbs apart everycouple of months, do the need to be replaced eveytime the carbs are torn apart.

By the way excellent site, very informative, Pictures and everything!

Thanks,

Ron

I'm not a carb guru like some of the other guys but since they haven't answered (WTF is everone lately?)

Until the gaskets look bad or tear they should be reuseable. They are rubber o-ring type.

If you put them back together the same way they came apart without bending the float tabs the float level should be back where it was when you started.

You can check the float level with them on the bike by putting a clear hose on the float bowl drain port and opening the drain valve while holding the hose up above the carb. The level should equalize with what is in the bowl and match the line scribed on the side of the carb which is pretty much the centerline of the diaphragm cover.

Do this after warming the bike up and making sure the bowls are full, you might do it with the engine running not sure about that one.

2.5 turns out on the idle screws is usually a pretty good place to start for most of these bikes I believe. Just about any combo of mods should be "OK" with that setting.

Good luck,

Rusty

First, check your dry float levels. The procedure is a Sticky in the carbs section of this forum. Basically, tip your carbs upside down and use a digital caliper to measure distance from inside of float chamber to the top of the float. It should be about 1.10 inches.

Gaskets rarely go bad unless the bike sits for long periods of time or the carbs are stored dry. Same with o-rings but inspect for cracks anyway.
