Carb cover casting change for spring seat

There seems to be at least two different carb cover castings, differing by the spring seat location tabs.

I think the earlier had a complete ring whereas the later has 3 circular segments.

Just wondering why, apart from saving a gramme or two in weight.

Believe it's just the opposite...the 3 segments are found on the earlier covers.
Would guess the ease of spring seating on the later version would explain it. Easy to get the spring on the inside of one of the segments.

There are additional covers for the Ventures that also fit the Vmax. The newer with the fill circle are easier to fit the spring as danny mentioned but who knows the specifics of why the change was actually made.

Great, makes sense, never occurred to me that fitting is more secure on the full segment variants. I wonder if there were issues on the factory production line.
