Id get the thread chaser garrett as all you want to do is run it thru already existing good threads. should be able to go to any auto parts or hardware store to find one, be able to do it right away vs flea bay buy. dont forget a little lube on the chaser. lets see some pics of the shiny new bling for your bike.

i'll make some phone calls today. not expecting much tho.

i broke a 'lifetime warranty' tap from autozone and walked in with it to get it replaced. i held it up to the cashier and they said, whats that for?

ugh. i got a new set but it was frustrating. i'll try local first. they may be $15-$20 tho.

ya i hate when that happens, i never expect them to warranty taps but guess worth a try.

the warranty wasn't a problem. it was explaining to the 'auto specialist' what a tap and die set was.

dont you love how people dont seem to know much these days at the auto parts stores. like what a dwell meter is or a set of points, what you can rebuild a starter at home!!!!! hahahah miss the days when a guy knew the part number and didnt have to look it up for you.

Your local parts store I bet has the thread chaser. I check Oreilly's after seeing the one you listed. Here's what I showed online for about $7:

Lisle - Thread Chaser
Part Number: 12230

* Oxygen Sensor Thread Chaser
* 1 Year Limited Warranty

3 local shops. biggest one they have is M14. unbelievable. and i can't buy it only rent it for $25!

gonna call CAP soon.

The one pictured doesn't look like a 'bottom' tap to me, I'd say that's a taper tap....which is what you want for tapered pipe threads.

You might want to clarify with the seller that you're getting the tap shown and not a bottom tap.

A bottom tap is for bolt threads that go all the way to the bottom of the hole without any taper...hence the name.

Edit* Oops, just noticed it said "semi-bottom" tap....still might be a good idea to check that it will work with pipe threads, if you're going to buy it.

got the one from CAP parts danny. it was $9 and came with a 14mm one as well. specifically for O2 bungs.

I just got my system back from being coated and the O2 bungs need to be cleaned out.

If your bung is dirty...

:biglaugh:

you could have bought a 18mm bolt and ground slightly angled small groves in it and made a thread chaser,maybe next time!

or leaving a bolt in there then getting the pipes coated will protect them. thanks for letting us learn from you garrett. they say you will never live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself so learn from others :bang head:

haha thanks guys! it looks like the chaser works pretty well. once i get all my bungs cleared if someone else needs it i'll ship it off for ya to use!
