Well after having 2nd gear failure and learning that only way to fix it is removal of engine I decided it was time for something big :)
So I am pulling the 1198cc but when Max goes back together it will have a 1300cc with Overdrive!!!! I'm going to try and have some fun posting a bunch of pics as I come apart and as progress transpires.
Today started with securing bike on lift and center stand, removing all the top and side covers on body and engine as well as scoops.

Good for you:clapping: taking a bunch of pictures helps and you can get some zip bags and label your bolts etc.
I "ripped" into my 88 project being not too worried about where things went as I could use the other bike as a reference, having said that I had several bozo moments scratching my head wondering which bit went where:biglaugh:

I was lucky enough to have another 'pattern bike' also, but lots of pics of wire & cable routings, hoses, connector locations, etc. are all going to come in very handy.

All those things that you say...."I won't forget where this goes".....bag & tag 'em....you won't remember everything.

Good luck with the project and keep us 'in the loop'!

Nice lift btw....I would not be able to live w'out mine!!

Now I'm getting a little nervous as I'm waiting for my motor to arrived back home soon, hoping I can get it all back together properly! I have a bunch of pics, baggies with notes so I "should" be good....
If I have any baggies with parts leftover I'll just bring 'em to the BR10!:biglaugh:

Just follow one of them manuals RB - yamaha, clymers ot haynes, and you can't go wrong!
I am actually pretty confident that it'll go back together just fine. I have a few mods I'm adding (COP's/ new carbs w/ Morley jet kit already installed/ busa brakes) that are of more concern than the actual process of installing the motor. On the whole it should go just fine as I have been reading the manuals, going through my parts and pictures so I should be good. I also have a buddy that is a ex bike mechanic and another that will help with the carbs fine tuning (builds racing snowmobiles).

Absolutely Brian, bring 'em along!! We'll glue them on somewhere!:punk:

:thumbs up:Wow what a day it's been

Ok Sean says he can do it in 1 hr and I did it in 1 day more or less lol
Things went well. Only had to use 1 life line for a quick question on the wires. Now it's time to clean parts and more parts. Loading a bunch of pics and I have a few questions but can't remember them right now.

If you want to take apart your current engine to check out your trans you can go ahead and do that. Give me a shout and I can walk you through the stuff to take off. You won't need to take off the upper head stuff (or even the valve covers). Did you find the engine slid right out with the mid gear removed?

Sean

Mid gear removed made it come pretty well straight out. My wife helped me at that point so she refused to let me hold the camera lol
I did it a little different as we talked. I kept my lift in the highest point and used my cherry picker with a strap wrapped around just under the exhaust ports. Works great!!!Was able to watch engine and lines as we came out slow so nothing got tugged on :)

Great job of documenting the tear down. This one should be a sticky since it has all these pics. I think it could be very helpful to others. Thanks for taking the time to post them all!

no prob I enjoyed doing it and hopefully it helped plant it in my head so I can remember how to go back together lol I've got alot of cleaning and little things like I found some rubbed through wires and all my rubber boots on carb and aircleaner box are cracked. I'm sure I will find more
as far a sticky I have no idea how to do that lol
