hello, great forum-i have a 97max with a bad 2nd gear, will continued use make matters worse? i try to go into third as quick as possible.also does anybody specialize in this repair?thanks

Depending on what is actually wrong it could make it worse but if the dogs are rounded then it won't hurt it (much) to keep riding it. If it's got broken teeth then the problem could really escalate and hurt other parts up to an including the complete engine.

We do offer trans repair services as well as complete engine builds. We even offer overdrive transmissions too. If you wanted to spend some money on the bike now would be a great time for one of our 1300 conversions.

Sean knows the tranny better than I do (I know where it is....) but as anecdotal evidence, I once owned a 71' CB5004 with no third gear and I put about 50k on that sucker just shifting around it.

I have the same year and the same problem as you! It sucks.

Spend the money now and fix it. Why risk having to spend a whack of $$$$$ later should you do some really serious damage to your engine that requires not only a rebuild, but possibly replacement of major componets (ie crank because the journals are gouged by metal bits). Not worth the risk. Besides its a 97 and probably due for an engine rebuild so no better time than the present!! :eusa_dance:

I SECOND THAT , HAVE SEAN DO THE TRANS & MAKE IT AN OVER DRIVE TRANS , IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY ....:punk: DON'T RISK TEARING EVERYTHING ELSE UP ! THATS JUST WHAT I WOULD DO !...:confused2:
