For those that have limited time to read posts, pretty sure my VMax is now fucked! :th_12: Now for the longer version .... today is great riding weather so I went to blast the carbs again ( hmm that EFI is looking nice) as it was having major stumble issues under 5k. So remove the scoops, open up the air box, mop up the always present oil pond in the air box:angry flame: and break out the carb cleaner. So in a moment of a major brain fart I was looking in the carb as I was doing the cleaning blast of carb cleaner. Now I can do a product review and tell you DO NOT GET CARB CLEANER IN YOUR EYE! :stretche: Any ways I was able to beeline it to the sink and do an eye flush fast enough before it ate my eye away! Back at the bike, found a clogged jet on 2 carbs, bolt everything back together and it runs fine.... well as usual it is a smoky exhaust as it burns out the carb cleaner but after a few minutes... it is still smoking!:hmmm: And now I see oil dripping from a couple of the joints in the exhaust system. WTF... I would think the white smoke would be a head gasket but oil out of the exhaust sounds like a major ring issue.... meh ... fuck it for today, luckily I have a whole bunch of booze in the house. :icon_jook: OK you may all post the smilie playing the little violin! LOL.

Sucks man, I'm sure you know the drill tho' compression and leakdown, visual inpection of piston tops.

Does the smoking go away after startup? (as in leaking valve guides) or is it continous? (as in rings)

Do something to get rid of the oil in the airbox (I don't know about this one, I've heard others say it happens but never has to me and I run my oil at the TOP of the sightglass) and eliminate that as the source of oil out the tailpipe.

If enough oil is passing through the cylinder to cause oil to run out the tailpipe I would think it would smoke worse than one of those DDT truck mounted mosquito foggers we used to ride behind on our bicycles as kids.

It's also possible that if enough carb cleaner went down the carbs, soaked the valves and then sat on top of the pistons and loosened all the crap up that a slimy mucky vmax Splooge" ball got ejaculated:jerk it: into the exhaust system when you started it???

Took another look at it today. The bike doesn't smoke at first so it isn't a valve guide issue. However it does start smoking after it has run for a minute and smokes more when you give it more throttle. My compression guage in out on loan so I pulled the plugs to take a look. Front left looks great, back left looks a bit rich, right side however has issues. Both plugs are soaked. I thought maybe is was a dirty gas mixture dripping from the exhuast from these 2 cylinders, but it is oil, without a trace of smell of gas or carb cleaner in it. And the oil is clean, as I changed the oil on the VMax 2 weeks ago.
This is confusing, from my car experience, the white smoke from the exhaust would be head gasket, but the oil and rad coolant are both clean and uncontaminated. The wet plugs would say carb issues or ignition issues, but the bike is running good with no trace of stumble or bog. I can't explain the oil out the exhaust on a motor that is still running properly.:ummm:

An old trick we used to do was to drizzle some trans fluid through the carb(s) when it was doing something like this.
The trans fluid will dislodge any top end deposits, and clean the combustion chamber.
Just enough fluid to make the cylinder stumble and almost stall.

Never know, it might work for you.:confused2:

The jury in in, the motor has crapped out on the right side. Did a compression test on the bike and the left side on both cylinders came up about 160 psi. The cylinders on the left came up 90 and 95! :stretche: I dumped a bit of oil in both of them and 1 came up to 120 and the other didn't really change at all. So this motor is now toast. Time to cancel the road insurance on it until I figure out what I want to do with it.

Well that really sucks ass Buster, sorry to hear that news.
How many miles do you have on that motor?
