Yea I know and I?ve seen some of these at the book value and I would never buy them..... Some of them at the book value were projects. This one is not it is a rider right now. I think that make a pretty big difference with the VMAX line.

another cherry one for a newbie looking for tasteful mods & a bike in what appears to be good shape.

And be sure and tell that Maine dreamer that no one, no one, pays above book value, or even book value in this economy!

I hear you there. I might consider offers but I love the bike so if I have to keep it I’m pretty OK with that too. It is still a tough economy and all so.... we’ll see. I do not have many options on there but the maintenance has been very good. The valves were set two years ago, new alternator new voltage regulator new final gear assembly, clutches inspected yearly all that sort of stuff. I can hop on it anytime I feel the need and know that it will perform as expected.....

Yea there's always a few odd prices for vmaxs', but i have to tell you i think the price is a bit extreme on yours. I have around $8k of extras in my '03 and i couldn't even get a bite at $6500.

just for an example:

http://greenville.craigslist.org/mcy/2536072585.html

i know this guy hasn't really gotten a bite at that price either, and he has almost half your miles..

I think the guy knows what it's really worth and doesn't want to sell it. His old lady is probably on his ass something to get rid of it.

Or else he's testing the market value just to see if he nut's or not.

I put mne on there at 10k once after it was pretty heavily modded "just to see"

And found of course what we all know to be true.....Modding out a max is pretty much the same as lighting $100 dollar bills on fire and tossing them out your car window, only funner...

That's what I was thinking...."well honey, I listed it for weeks and didn't get any interest, guess I'll have to keep it around!". Neglecting to say he was asking triple book value for a not-that-rare bike, nothing exceptional about it, in an economy where getting even 75% of book value is a fantastic deal.

Definitely a case of sentimental value exceeding monetary value. I tried to sell my '97, 25k miles, loads and loads of extras, super clean for $4k and didn't get so much as a nibble of interest.

Seems like mod money into the bike returns maybe 25% back at sale time. $3000 bike, plus $2000 of mods, equals maybe a $3500 bike. Maybe. To the right buyer, in the right time, in the right place.

I didn't realize the clutch needed routine "inspections" either. That must be why my bike is worth peanuts, I've neglected to regularly check the clutch plates for......something.
