Found these shocks on the bay. Does the bottom one in the picture look like it's broken, or is it normal for the top cap to be able to be at that angle?

I would recommend getting aftermarket shocks instead of more stockers.

Mine used to bounce like a basketball under extreme emergency braking with stock shocks.

Progressive shocks can be as cheap as $180 new in black or chrome.I never had this problem with them.

I agree with Shawn, if your going to buy another set of shocks, you should buy and upgraded set rather then stock - will benefit from a better ride

Mike

ok that makes good sense. Now which of those progressive shocks do you guys actually recommend? There seems to be quite a choice of them looking on eBay, and really I just wanted to replace the ones currently fitted to my bike because some PO was a short arse and had the bike lowered (with shorter shocks) so that it's now impossible to get the bike on its centre stand. Also the ones I have I believe to be pretty rubbish considering how bad the bike handles - altho they do look a bit like the progressive ones in the attached picture. I know they're not these (could be an older model) as they only have preload adjustment, no damping. The bottom and inside look the same, but the top is different - just a skinny bit of metal above the spring that connects to the top eye.

New tires have to come first (badly needed), so I was looking at going with cheapo OEM ones for now.. Does anyone know what exact length the OEM ones are?

Stock length is 13" eye to eye - as far as which progressives to buy depends on how much you want to spend - 412 shocks are less than $200 - steel body and hydraulic - 440 are about $400-$500 - aluminum body and gas shocks

Mike

Do the 412s provide damping adjustment?

And how do they compare to the OEM ones - is it really a major improvement?

I guess I'm after the best bang for my buck - I would like better than stock suspension, but can't afford to drop half a grand on it :confused2:

Anyone has a decent pair or 13" progressive they would wanna part with?

412s would be best bang for the buck IMO - but no damping adjustment, just preload adjustment - definitely better than stock - I had a set of 11.5" but sold them to Mitchell - needed to go back to stock height - will be buying new shocks this winter - don't much like the stock ones

Mike

I tried a set on the front of my sport quad - did last very long - cheap chinese shocks - thrust for the extra few bucks, the 412s are much better.

Mike

i saw the pair of stock shocks on ebay was looking at them for my cousins crash me up max and the shock looked whackd to me also i was going to ask the seller because it dont say one is damaged.

I have the 418's which is what you posted a picture of. I prefer them as they are a little higher quality than the 412's and do have adjustable damping. I think they are rebuildable also but might check with Progressive on that. There are different springs available depending on your weight and riding style. That info is on the Progressive web site. They are 12.5" center of eye to center of eye which lowers the bike very slightly. (Stock is 13"). Still can get it on the centerstand even at my light weight and old age....

if you can find a decent set of these on e-bay-this is the way to go. i paid 350 for these and ordered the new bushings from ohlins. stock eye to eye measurements. good luck whatever you choose to do.
