I was considering a new Vmax and noticed that the Yamaha US website doesn't mention anything about ABS, but the Canadian Yamaha site does.

So does the US bike have ABS ?

How about traction control?

The US MSRP is $18K vs. the Canadian MSRP of $23K :(

I can easily buy a US bike and import it to Canada and save a lot of money, just trying to learn about this bike and see if it's spec'd differently in the US.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks Chuck. The CDN version has the immobilizer key and a flashing red LED when the bike is off.

Can you switch your digital speedo to km/h from mph?

Does it have traction control?

It's strange that in the US specs there's no mention of ABS.

That makes my decision easier. I can buy in the US for $16k OTD vs. $22k (with a $1000 discount off MSRP).

You can easily change the US Gen II from mph to kph by pushing one button. No traction control.

Left of the two adj buttons. Simply press and hold a second. If you press only momentarily, it will change the trip meter between trip A & trip B, and/or trip F - if the low fuel light is on at the time, as I recall. Hold the same button longer than that instant, and it will switch between sae & metric units.

It's when you wanna change the time on the clock, or change the shift light points that takes a bit of figuring......even more figuring if you want to go into diagnostic mode to change some fuel ratios between individual cylinders, check codes, zero out previous codes, etc...:biglaugh:

There is a $220 charge for the paperwork to import any US compliant vehicle and obtain a Canadian DOT compliance certificate and sticker, then you're good to hand in the US title and obtain a local one, but you have to pay the 13% sales tax on the declared value, which you have to pay whether you buy it locally or import it.

I imported my '12 Yamaha SuperTenere and saved about $5000.

GET OUT!! You can do all that with those two little buttons? :surprise:

Now I'm REALLY scared of them! :th_scared:

Even seen the external temperature displayed on some but, once again........:confused2:

Why is it that I always end up lost in the digital weeds and have to drive back home for the manual that tells me how to fix what I did? :ummm:

Danny, you DO HAVE the matching Service Manual, don't you? :ummm:

It tells how to do all those things. Getting into the diag mode to see and/or reset codes requires both buttons be pushed down while simultaneously turning on the ignition etc. But to do anything inside such as adjusting a co2 setting on an individual cylinder would require first installing a jumper wire from ground to a certain wire harness wire under the hood before entering into the diag mode. That stuff was covered early on over on the Star forum, but since has kind of been rendered obsolete news by Tim's reflash service taking care of any OEM co2 danger on cyl #1.....it was proven to be quite a bit too lean from the factory....or so the discussion went at that time.

Most all of the easy adjustments like clock function, and readjusting shift light rpms, is covered in the regular owners' manual too. I know you have one of those already. What bothered me the most was my having to actually stop and read the darn thing before finding my way around with the two buttons. Like a typical male, I don't much like having to ask for directions, or reading instructions. :biglaugh:

I do have the Service Manual, but not the Owners Manual....PO kept it for some reason.

I never knew about the co2 problem in #1, I joined that forum way back in the dark ages but didn't participate much when it became obvious I wan't going to be able to afford a Gen II....then this '09 kind of fell in my lap last fall, which is why I'm 'fashionably' late showing up for the party.

Sent the box off to Tim for a burn so I'm good with that....the buttons...well, I get OK with them after a little riding, but then the winter layover is so long I have to get re-trained in the spring. :biglaugh:

Man....I'd love to but gotta keep the fires going here so the water don't freeze!! :biglaugh:

I hope it doesn't snow there either.....complete wild card this year for sure!

Global Warming's got to kick in here soon.....doesn't it? :ummm:

Or rahter in Brimley which is only 25 miles south west LOL :biglaugh:

No serioulsy, first chance/offer and im gone from this dying continent...
Oh hell yes! Unfortunately there is not much industry around here, but just a little ways south are many more choice with a man of your skills Prze! All we have is a small casino and a bunch of tourist spending their retirement $$$$'s. Lots of area if your into outdoor pursuits though.
