Ok guys,

For those of us who never buy or receive parts across borders. What's the scoop on shipping across the border. Into the US. or into Canada. I imagine things may differ between countries. Can you post a do or a don't on the subject or give us your good or bad experience on shipping.

I got a deal going, however the seller (who I will call buddy ) swore he wouldn't ship to Canada again due to a couple of problems he had in the past. Not between buyer and seller but with customs and breakage.

I'd appreciate any info. I want the deal to go through and I'd hate to loose out cuz of shipping issues.

shipping overseas and internationally can be a hassle sometimes. The biggest issue besides collecting the money is customs. Sometimes they will have brokerage fees and custom fees that are outragous and can cost 2-3 times the value of the item sold. Most of those cases the buyer will simply abandon the product on the dock and you have to pay the return shipping to get it back or be out the product if you give the buyer back thier money.

Many times the fees can be avoided by putting the value of the item pretty low and either saying it is a repaired item being returned or a used or damaged item with little value. Of course that means you can't insure it for the actual value too.

Shipping time can sometimes be an issue too but for the most part if you go through the post office (which you will want to do anyway) there isn't a lot of issues with delays.

I have shipped to virtualy every country in the world and even have shipped engines overseas (which is a larger issue) without too much trouble but the customer needs to know that any fees and customs problems are theirs and not yours since it is beyond your control.

I have had many items shipped to Canada from the US, and found that USPS is the only way to go.
USPS brokerage fees are outrageuos, and they sometimes send you another bill after you have signed off and received the original shipment.

I agree, except I think you meant UPS brokerage fees are outrageous. Go USPS, although you will have to pay tax and duty on your item. You can pay extra, I think, to get tracking on the package.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your expertise. A freind at work was also telling me to have it sent as a gift.

Just as an update, I got may package yesterday which I'm extremely happy with by the way. They were shipped USPS as a gift, and that was on the 28 of March and I got them on the 02 of April. Wow - that was fast !

No damage or problems what so ever. I got the two very nice custom mirrors and a new stock air filter from - BMANNON. I paid by pay pal, and he sent me a copy by email of the receipt of shipping, and they were here in no time. It went very well and I would not hesitate on buying something again and having it shipped the same way - from him anyway ! :clapping:

When I've ordered from Exactrep they always ship Fedex and understate the value tremendously and then send me the invoice/receipt separately as mail to avoid custom dutys or whatever it is that's extra....

I got my backrest from Exactrep for $150 and had to pay $150 for shipping. I payed no other fees so I guess they payed on there end or something, I dont know. The backrest was packed very poorly and one of the tubes was actually sticking thru the side of the box when I got it, It didnt get damaged, but I dont know how!!!

I sold a camera kit to a guy in England and it was over $150 to ship it UPS, plus he had to pay Duty on it over there. When he got the camera the focsusing screen was knocked out of it!! I assure you that it was packed above and beyond 'good' it was on the verge of being over protected.

Then there was the short wave radio I sent to a guy in the Philipines, It got stuck at a UPS hub because they lost the paper work, oh yeah I forgot they lost it on the camera going to England too :confused2:

The stuff I sent to Rob is the only deal I have ever done across national borders that went right, maybe practice makes perfect :hmmm:
