I don't... Pretty much guarantee it's the Dunlop. Metzler ME880 will be a better choice over all IMO. Last a long time and isn't a bad price from Ron Ayers.

I dunno. I used to run the Dunlop Qualifiers, and compared to the Shinkos they were rubbish!

Shinkos are incredibly cheap and soft. So great grip (in the wet too) but doesn't last very long. My rear is almost worn after about 7000 miles, which I still think is pretty decent at that price.
That's with no burnout or other mistreatment, but lots and lots of straight line miles and plenty of Vboost ;-)

I hear lots of people talk smack on the el cheapo shinkos. I bought a set in March. Less than $135 TMD. No wobble/balance issues here. The front tire does have some very tiny, hairline cracks in the center rib only. No effects from them yet tho. The front is wearing well. The rear is squaring off already and the tread is getting pretty thin in the middle. I'm not even 2K miles into this tire. I'd say I'll be lucky to get 3K with this tire.

So far, so good tho. I would buy one again for $75. They grip the road quite well IMO. I'm a fair weather rider so I can say much about rain-worthiness.

My rear shinko is wearing better than my old bridgestone did at this point. I have about 3700 miles on it since June 5th, it is squaring off a good bit. I can still see my center groove and only have done 2 good burnouts on it. The last shinko I ordered from Motorcycle Superstore cost $75(ordered $15 sunglasses to get free shipping) and $30 to mount off bike. I think the shinkos will be about a 5000 mile tire for me, maybe less once I install jetted carbs.

what do you guys think of the avon tires??/ I just got a bike and its got those on it. So i'll give my opinion after i ride it for a while. So far i like the metzler 880 but always looking for a good gripping/cost tire

I have a 150 dunlop 404 on my max now - but I still havent got her on the road..

I want to go to the 170 - but I don't want to do the washer thing.. want to bolt right in :)

I have heard of one person being able to run a 170 with out the washer but then another (with the same tire) didn't.

I have a friend who ran his 170 metz without the washer. Can't help you with the Dunlop.

its almost a bike per bike comparision, however i haven't heard of ANYONE that had to do the washer swap for a shinko 170.

i got a m880 170 and did the washer swap but afterward looking at it don't think i needed too, lots of room. Looks like i can almost put a 180 if they make one.

I didn't have to do the washer swap with the installation of my Shinko 170 tire. I might be able to slip a pencil between the tire and S/A but it's gonna get scaped up.
