what kind of machines do you guys work with, the only machine tool maker left in the the usa is haas, which are junk, 5 years at the most, every machine we have got in the last 5 years, i have had to update, add new controls and program, it's sad, the usa was at one time the largest machine builder in the world. WTF

I learned to do a bit of programming on a HAAS controller. Nicel little machine at the time. That was back in 96.

We have a variety of machines. Mazak, Fryer and Haas. I bought a TL 2 Lathe last year, acually it's a year old and haven't had a problem. In fact everybody loves it so much I'm getting quotes on a VF 3, 5 axis right now.

We're R&D so they don't get pushed as hard as they would in a production environment. Are you using Mastercam for programing? Just curious are your machines running one shift? What do you make?

I've got one of these "challenger" cnc's and found it excellent to work with.
Easy to programme and a good size work envelope.

I'm looking to buy a reasonably priced CNC mill, so if anyone knows of one for sale, feel free to let me know. I'd like to find one that holds CAT40 tools since I have access to a few at a buddys work place.

i'm not sure what all cnc programs we run, i don't get involved with that much, i'm on the plc side, as for controllers most of what we have are mazatrol fusion and several different versions of fanuc, we have over 500 machine tools and run 24/7 365 days a year building natural gas compressors, we are the largest producer of natural gas compressors in the world, if you want to check it out go to ariel corp. com dave

Along time ago I worked for a company called Cushman Chuck. Cushman was established in 1847. Cushman was the original patent holder for the lathe chuck. I worked there when the company decided to have their standard product line, manufactured by an Asian company. I remember when a whole troupe of them came through with their camera's to see how we manufactured. Well Cushman is long gone now, along with a lot of great machine tool builders based in your home state of Ohio. I would visit on a weekly basis... Warner and Swasey, Leblond, Cincinnati Milacron and many others in the machine tool belt of our country.

I haven't checked lately, but the last time I did most of those companies were gone. Nobody makes those kind of machines anymore. Haas is forced to compete with companies like Mazak, Okuma etc. It's sad that we've given our technology and manufacturing to foreign countries.

Machine tools in general, that are being run the way your company runs them (24/7). Have a life expectancy of about 5 years. It's great that we still have Ariel Corp. manufacturing in this country. I hope Ariel continues to support companies like Haas at any cost to them.

BUY AMERICAN MADE!

turbo,

we have some mazaks that have been in service well over 15 years and still spit out parts 24/7, they are well maintained, our biggest problem is finding manual mills and lathes, we need them for second op's, we have been buying machines built in the 60's and 70's and restoring them, they are built like tanks, add some digital readouts, replace some contactors and they will run forever. dave

Yea there's nothing out there now a days that is that solid. Getting back to my story. Mazak was originally a company called Yamasaki, They were one of the first to come here. They shortened the name... probably for American acceptance. They were based then in Florence, Kentucky. Straight over the bridge from Cincinnati. They made some very solid equipment back then and big... part capacity wise. So it's no surprise they are as solid as the machines built by US in those days. Guess it's like everything built now.... they figured out that product obsolescence thing. You know a lot of those old manual machines are being shipped to China and similar developing countries. It really pisses me off!

Hi guys, i'm new here.
Excuse me for my english but... i'm italian.
It's very difficult for me to undestand what you say, but i'm trying.
I'm very interest to you because i'm converting my vmax from carburettor to efi, but we have the same your problem.
We, because i'm working on this project with my friend, Fabio

I work in a small metal workshop where we have same cn machines.
Some lathe hitachi-seiki
Some lathe mori-seiki
and some milling center

I've made here this http://www.msextra.com/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=30337&sid=d81e2669f0d9f9d2419494873017b287&start=20

Good evening to all

Luca

Welcome Luca! Glad to see you made it over here. Your throttlebodies look very nice! I did'nt realize at first that they were the actual throttlebodies. I thought they were LOOONG manifolds. Top notch work!

Hopefully we can work out all the details on the EFI together. Yours and Fabio's input is VERY MUCH WELCOME! Be sure to check out some of the EFI topics that we have in this section.
If there is something that you don't understand(language), just ask and we will do our best to make it clearer.

Once again, WELCOME!

Luca,

Welcome to the forum! Fantastic job your doing. We will share all with you as we progress. I have spent much time in your country. A small town called Portogruaro in northern Italy. http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=M...l=45.199458,11.840515&spn=1.3083,2.460938&z=9 I work for a company called Emhart Glass and we make machinery for producing glass bottles. The company I visit from time to time is called Zignago. They make the good wine... Santa Margherita. Pino Grigio my favorite.

Hey guys,
First post since I'm new here.:biglaugh:
The Mazak VQC 15/40 is now 20 years old.; we have a Mazatech H-400 as well.
My thoughts are to manufacture some replacement parts in 360 brass - I don't mind the added weight but kind of like the idea of black with goldish colored accessories; besides, I can always design tapered reliefs on the back side if required.
The only thing that's holding me back is the time factor which will be around the fall of this year. Solidworks, Mastercam, Mazatrol, and lots of surfacing experience.
I'll be sure to post some pics once everything is on the go.

Regards, Jack

Hit Jack,

Welcome to the forum! Did you ever consider just having the polished aluminum anodized gold. I like the look of gold and black. We've just purchased a HASS VM2 Mold Maker. It will arrive in April and can't wait to get my hands on it. We use Mastercam... I may have some questions for you about the Mastercam. What version do you currently use? Check this thing out it screams 12000 RPM spindle speed, 710 IPM Rapid....http://www.turbovmax.com/images/Videos/VM-3 shoe Mold.wmv

Hey Turbovmax,
It's MasterCam ver 9.
I've had hard annodizing done in the past and I'm rather unhappy with the consistancy found in Ontario, Canada.
I would love to do the accessories in copper, but not with copper plating. As you know copper is expensive and touchy for finishing. 360 brass is 60% copper and rather easy to machine and finish. I will be using a polishing service and a clear coat specialist as well prior to marketing any efforts on this forum. As I said, this won't be happening until the fall... Best Regards, Jack
