I really need to change the fork seals on my bike. I've watched Sean's videos and he refers to thin wall PVC pipe for a seal driver. No one around this area carries anything remotely close to the right size pipe and no one carries thin wall PVC except large drain pipe. Where in the hell do you find 1 3/4" ID 2" OD pipe?

I'd even buy the correct tool if I could find one locally. I see 43mm drivers on the internet but none locally. My local Harley shop would loan me one but apparently neither Harley or Honda use 43mm forks.

Anyone in the St. Louis area have any suggestions? I really need to do this tomorrow due to my work schedule.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm in Columbia MO and I took one side of the fork with me to the local Ace hardware store. They had all the parts I needed to make a driver.

I found the same problem a little while back. I used the pvc size that was just a bit too small (1-1/2" maybe). Cut it long enough to go from the seal up past the upper stantion. Then I cut it in half length-wise (both sides-in two pieces). Now it can be fitted around the tube against the seal. With another set of hands someone holds the halves together down low and someone taps the top of the pvc down. Worked great.

That's cause you got 'The Pirate' living right across the street~!! Out here in the woods we have to use hose clamps~!! :rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200:

Sprinkler pipe is thin wall. Maybe an irrigation supply would have what you need.

I think I'll try to cobble together something with PVC pipe like suggested above. thanks for all the suggestions,

Jim

As was noted Ace I think is where we got this. I want to say Schedule 40 or 80 (can't remember which is the thinner wall). But, even the thicker wall stuff will work fine and the ID doesn't have to be a 100% snug fit. If the OD is too big to fit down into the lower leg then simply sand it down on the outside until it will fit. Again this doesn't have to be perfect.

Sean

if you have both forks already apart you can use BOTH old seals as drivers and have even more room to use a pvc pipe that doesn't quite fit.

I bought a proper driver locally but my problems continue. I started another thread looking for more help removing the bottom bolt.
