Has anyone used the fuel level gauge (YM-01312) in the manual (Pg 5-9) to check fuel levels in float bowls?

Is the "piston center mark" on the gauge or carb?

Where do you hold the gauge for correct measuring? The reading would fluctuate depending on how high/low you hold it since it is gravity fed - correct?

You don't need the gauge. Just get some clear hose at local hardward store that fits over the carb drain hose. Measure 17 mm from one end and mark it. Put other end on drain hose. Open drain screw and cycle key a couple of times. Hold marked end of hose to side of carb. There's a casting line on each side "around the corner" of the slide cover. Line up the end of the hose to that line. The fuel level in the hose will always be the same level as the fuel in the bowls.
