I would assume by the pictures I saw in the beginning of my other thread in the Starvmaxforum

http://www.starvmax.com/kunena/12-g...-not-having-a-good-day-bike-tipped-over-on-me

the spring is put on while the kickstand is in the up position and a new spring that isn't stretched out would hold everything in place with the tension. If someone has replaced a kickstand spring before I would appreciate if you can tell me how you did it. I posted this in both forums thinking I'd have a better chance of someone doing this repair before.

Thanks

This worked well for me. Seriously.
Cheers!

edit - just noticed you said "kickstand".....but the nail trick might work for that spring as well.
I will have nails ready to go after looking at the situation. If I can't get the spring in without making it longer then your method seems to have worked. I just wonder how it will work on a brand new spring.

Miles are you talking about a center stand???? is that what you used the nails on?

Ok I see we are posting past each other on this topic.. Kickstand not center stand..

I've seen a few videos of people changing out the kickstand spring and On one the bike was leaning a lot more than it should and it that case the guy had to replace the whole kickstand. I will have to inspect my kickstand to see if it bent at all. The way it happened makes me think I might be better off replacing the whole kickstand. I will update you.Nope kickstand not bent as far as I can tell. I see all kinds of methods like miles mentioned. From pennies to nails to a brake spring tool. I think I will pick one up just to have if for nothing else. The first video on the search shows them using a brake spring tool, do any of you think it will work??

O.K., I'm tuned in to the correct wavelength now...
We're taking about a sidestand spring for a Gen2

I've had the sidestand spring off my gen 1 many times, hasn't been too much of a hassle.
With the bike on the centerstand, I put the sidestand in the up position, and grab the stand end of the spring with a pair of needlenose vise grips
This gives me enough purchase to pull the spring off of the hook. Assembly is done in reverse.
I'm assuming the Gen2 spring goes over a similar stand hook? And of course you will have to have your bike supported vertical, with something other than a centerstand, which you don't have (those puppies are so handy sometimes!)
Hope this helps!

I have front and rear stands so I will try with needle nose vise grips first then from there is a punt.. The hardest part is going to be the
Link, Side Stand which slides on a post and then you pull it down to the skinny part then while that is hanging you have to get the spring from the kickstand to the Link, Side Stand.

If you are interested in seeing how it is you can read this thread at Starvmaxforum.

That way anyone with a Gen 1 will see what gen 2 look like for the kickstand spring.

I was able to get my kickstand spring installed and it was so stupid easy, I was just lucky. I used needle nose vise grips and was able to stretch the spring enough to attach it to the kickstand.

That was a good thing now I have a lot off my mind.

I replaced the kickstand spring today and it was so easy, I was worried for days about it trying to get all the help I could on here and the other forum. Turns out all I needed was a pair of needle nose vise grips and a pair of safety glasses. The spring went on first try, it was a my lucky day.
