Hi everyone. Hello from Canada!

I've been reading a handful of threads here familiarizing myself with the vmax.

I've been eyeing one in my local market and am wondering if this is worth it. This one looks to be well maintained. 40k (km) on the odo with mods to the brakes and suspension. And what seems to be the "favoured" cobra exhaust. Let me know what you all think! Eager to hear your feedback. THANKS! $

I think that's more than I'd pay, but he obviously took care of it. I see it as $4744 USA. If you could get it for $4000 USA/$5480 CAN I'd say that would be a fair deal for something probably not needing any expensive repairs. Make sure it doesn't jump out of 2nd gear when you rev it to say 6000 rpm and shift from 1st to 2nd. Be careful as that's past where the VBoost comes-on. If you aren't prepared, you could find the bike doing a power-wheelie, the front tire off the pavement.

He has it well-equipped, except for the Cobra exhaust which costs you probably something like 15 RWHP. Find out if the carburetors have a Dynojet Stage 1 kit in there. It has proven to be a problematic jet kit, hard to tune well. If it is a Stage 1 Dynojet, switching back to a stock exhaust from the cyl. heads to the megaphones, complete, and re-installing the OEM Yamaha jetting will regain you that 'lost' roughly 15% in power. There is absolutely no comparison of a Cobra 4/1 & Dynojet Stage 1 jet kit to a stock exhaust and carbs VMax, in terms of throttle response and power.

$4000 USA in LA. And time to change head gaskets. Old vmax tricky to maintain.

Well, I did a thing today. Thanks for all your help everyone. I'm in love with this bike. My first 1000cc + bike.

Turns out the seller took really good care of it and only ever saw the only Vmax expert we had in town. All mods were done very well, and bike is fairly unmolested. Motor in great shape, fired right up from dead cold. No 2nd gear issue and I kept an eye out for everything you all suggested. Didn't get a screaming deal but not a terrible one I think. Paid $6250 CAD.

In any case, I'm very happy with this purchase. Sold my (supposed to be dedicated track bike) Ninja 400 for $6000 for this "smiles per gallon" Vmax. I can't complain. Feels like a worthwhile "trade" in my mind.

Oh yeah, getting $6K CAN for the Ninja, and now you have a legend. Every time that you see the oil light flashing under hard acceleration, you will be glad you made the sale/purchase. The red oil light in the faux gas tank cover's instrument pod flickering a bit is nothing to worry-about. $4379 USA for a bike cared-for, and with those accessories/upgrades, is OK as far as I consider it.

Now get rid of the Cobra 4/4's (and check the jetting, switch back to the OEM jetting if you return to the OEM system or a pair of slip-on canisters), and be amazed at the difference in power, throttle response and how you enjoy the new-found power, as it should-be!

This is where I disassemble the cables to remove the carburetors (below)
