I am guessing he had a 1-2-3 Auto Transmission. 95% of dragbikes this fast run a 1-2-3 auto trans.
Basically the transmission gears are cut to change with no kill of the engine. With a close ratio trans you really cant hear a change in tone when gears are shifted.
Thousands of dollars to pick up thousandth's of a second. Welcome to racing, how fast do you want to go and how fast can you spend it

They also break A LOT! A friend of mine out here has a GS1100 based dragbike with a 1570 mountain motor in it. It's gone 2 years on one top end and had 3 transmissions.
