Didn't see a better location for this thread so I stuck it here......

I'm looking to get into powder coating in my garage. I've watched a video from Eastwood and it doesn't look too difficult. About $200.00 for the starter kit plus a good size used oven to get going.

Has anyone else been doing this?? Do you have any Do's/Don'ts to share?? How have your results been??

Do's:

let me know when u have this set up as i will be making some visits! :rofl_200::eusa_dance:

I used the eastwood kit with the infra-red head lamp, with great results, when I still had my paintball shop.

Clean, clean , clean the material to be coated. I used my glass beading cabinet then sanding, then Eastwood's metal cleaner. I would then heat the item (overkill I know) then clean it again with the metal cleaner.

Things turned out great after that, here are a few examples.

Some vicious looking P/B stuff there KJ!!

Me and my buddies went up against a bunch of ROTC guys with those kind of weapons once. They were all painted up, camo'd etc., we looked like a bunch of long haired welfare bums!

Long story short...we cleaned them up easily, their team leader said "you guys are pretty good, we're ROTC trained, where did you get your training?"

One of my buddies simply said, "DaNang." :biglaugh:

I'm looking at the same system.

As long as you have an oven - preferably in your garage - or out of the main living area of your home, as you won't be able to cook food in it again (health / safety reasons) as you are required to bake the peices you have coated - then it should be working perfectly.

I am going to get into powder coating with the purchase of my house in the next year or so. Going to buy that eastwood setup and start up my own lil' powdercoating workshop.

Just remember to preheat ALL aluminum and put the powder on hot and then bake until done.

Aluminum off gases and causes fish eyes otherwise.
