I've ridden my 1985 Max (bought new) up to Americade in Lake George NY for many years. I used it as a touring bike till I bought my Roadstar in 2002.
Went through all the phases, saddlebags, windshields, even made a hitch and pulled trailer for about 5 years. (Argueably the world's fastest trailer rig!)
Over the years the mileage racked up and the guys that worked for Yamaha
got to recognise me coming to the rally, and remembered that I was really piling on the miles. In fact, they knew of nobody that had within 20,000 miles of the total on mine. I remember when the Max turned over 100,000 miles, I took a picture of the odometer at 99999.9, then at 00000.0.... Sent them to Yamaha, and got a letter back saying they appreciated my loyalty to the brand.
But they also sent me a keychain.:damn angry: I didn't figure they were like gonna give me a new engine or anything like that, but a keychain seemed kinda lame!
Anyway, Mr. Max is back on the road after a bit of a retirement - no mechanical work done, just a rest! The odometer now reads 117,662 miles.
Can anyone out here beat that?
BTW - Heads never were off. No internal engine work.
(I don't figure a clutch or stator coil internal)
Best $5395.00 I ever spent!
