i found it 'easiest' (being a relative term) for the cage bearing destroy the cage and needles then use a blind bearing puller and keep at it until it grabs enough to start pulling the outer race out. i tried and tried hitting it out via the 'groves' cut in the back but it didn't go anywhere. didn't have a long drift then either though so that might be the way to go. if i were to do it again i'd try maybe trying to cool the outter race via ice cubes and heat the 'sleeve' itself with a heat gun for any extra edge.
as sean said the ball bearing just pounds out via the other side with a drift.
