I went otu to the garage to check out maxine and found some interesting numbers. The battery cold was 12.12.I started her up and at 1000 rpm i got 13.5 to13.8 .I reved her up to 2500 rpm and the voltage droped to 13.0 .I took the two coils off and found a crack on both of them. The bike runs and starts great but what should I do about the coils ?.Should I get some RTV and seal them ?.I do noit ride in the rain if I cant help it.:ummm:I havent done any mods yet .

mine does the same thing, maybe not exact numbers, but at higher RPMS the voltage drops. i've never had a problem starting it though or anything like that so its pretyt low on the prioirty list. gotta do the crimp fix eventually tho.

Surface cracks on the coils are very common and don't seem to affect the running at all. You can seal them with clear sylicone....it's flexible.

i used black rtv. that way it matches! heh

It's not real unusual for peak voltage to occur just off idle, and then drop a bit as RPMs rise further. I'm not exactly sure why this happens, though I suspect it has to do with complicated and uninteresting electromagnetic theory.

i think theres also something to be said for if my bike starts every time, cranks hard and i've never electrical issues? leave it the f alone, eh?

Mine puts out good juice now!.Hey ? how hard is it to get to the positive wire to the starter .I want to clean them up.

One end is on the starter relay, which is the round puck in a little rubber holder on top of the battery. The other end goes to the side of the starter. When you push the start button, it closes that solenoid and sends juice to the starter.
