Alright so I'll make it as short as possible. I have had my Max a while, the entire time I've run overridden vboost. The guy before put it on an ON and OFF switch. Now I want my V-boost back online, so I went to put the module back in the controlls the servo and noticed it's been opened up before and sealed up again with silicone, wich gets me thinkin maybe the module gave up and THATS why he put it on a switch.
My Max could be running even better if it had the bottum end power back from not running so overly rich at low rpm.

So the question is...how do I test the V-boost module to see if it works?

i think i tests itself while the startup proceduce once you turn the ignition on. if it works you will surely hear it testing itself...

satariel666: Excellent videos that you found for the operation of the VBoost...

I found the VBoost cable hanging up on my 89 at the adjustment point (Shown In The 3rd Video) under the carbs. I had to bend the support frame to stop it from happening again. Now I have a happy VBoost. Looks like the PO opened up the boost control to look for trouble. I inspected and cable tied it at 2 points to keep the cover on.

Good Luck with yours. I've heard of some trying to fix the controller with mixed results.

The problem is some of the wiring for the servo is tied into the override switch so when I reinstalled it I couldn't figure out if it was the servo or the wiring keeping it from doing the opening cerimony...either way when I wired it up nothing happened?

Here's the wiring diagram and key for the bike. 51 is the controller, and 52 is the actual motor.

Attached is a PDF cut from the service manual showing Vboost section & trouble shooting.

The rich at low rpm with vboost open is a bit of a myth. The carbs are venturi driven, if the engine is sucking through more carbs rather than less then the airflow thru each individual carb is going to be slower and the fuel pulled from the bowl will be less.

I've proven this with a permanently mounted Wide band air fuel ratio guage set up that saw a lot of different set ups and variations in v- boost operation. It's just simply not true, My bike runs no richer or leaner with or without vboost in normal operation or with it permananetly open at all times. The guage was a http://www.widebandcommander.com/
that is proven to be accurate with fresh sensors.

What IS true is that due to the slower velocity of flow through multiple carbs when the vboost is open at all times is that some throttle response is going to be lost when accellerating from lower gears at lower rpms.

I ran my bike down the strip ALOT with the vboost in normal and in "open all the time" condition and truthfully the performance difference was very slight ( i'm talking like .05 in the 1/4) and not something you would feel by the seat of your pants. The lack of throttle response can be felt when trying to do a roll on on the street, but at the strip your launching at 4500-5000 rpm anyway.

I LOVE my open all the time, the sound is wicked nasty, plus the problem I mentioned above is easily compensated for by merely downshifting if you want to run someone on the street from lower speeds.
