So I might have messed up. These are pics of the front wheel I just took off the project bike to swap to my working bike. As you can see, with the non-speedo-side spacer cut so it actually goes into the forks, the wheel is way off center. I'm confused, frustrated, whatever you want.... I'm pissed. I'm not actually using the stock speedo, so I guess I could go get two new spacers made.

I need to know what wheels these actually are, I guess. I was told R6, but I think it's a YZF600R wheel from 95-99 based on pics I've seen around. Help a brotha out.:bang head:

After sitting on the garage floor for another 20 minutes, I think I'll just delete the speedo housing and have two spacers made. I might also have to put a washer between the calipers and the fork mounting holes, but I don't think I'll need to grind anything off the forks since I have a magnetic speedo sensor now.

That's what I'm thinking now, too. It's doable, just wonky. I'll be taking the fork tubes, wheel, and calipers to a couple machine shops ASAP to see what they say. Might not be as bad as it seems.

Agreed. Early sportbike. Finding out the rim width will also help narrow the choices down as to what it started life as.

Anyone want to take a guess as to how much it should cost to have two spacers cut?

Looks like a wheel from an early 90's FZR600.

Yup, looks like a Thundercat and probly has a VMax hub welded in. You can use an empty VMax speedo housing as a spacer but IIRC you will need a wee tiny shim also.

Probly better off to have a single spacer made as long as you have the other speedo.

Shouldn't be too expensive to have made, just need some round stock turn the o.d., bore the axle hole and trim to length....maybe mill a little slot for the speedo lug....not that difficult.

Is it 17"?

Stock speedo housing is why it's so far off to the right. Definitely no VMax hub welded in there. The rotor bolt spacing is super tiny. Maybe I'll have the guys gut the speedo housing, though. Then it's only one spacer for the axle and some shims behind the caliper mounts. It is a 17.

I also need to figure out what bearings will work. Probably gonna go ahead and replace them before finishing everything up.

Just a snap ring holds the big gear in the speedo housing. the smaller gear can stay in. You may also want to drop the fender down a little, the 17" wheel leaves quite a space. I used delrin spacers and a p/c UFO fork brace on my '99.

Yeah. I'm gonna drop it for sure. Grind the side that touches the forks, then put a washer or whatever in there once it's small enough or grind the side that touches the wheel?

Don't think it matters all that much as long as your shoulders are parallel with each other and plumb to the wheel & forks.

I was just wondering because of the way the speedo housing contacts the wheel with those little tabs and stuff. I'll see what the guys at the shop say when I get over there. In the mean time, I gotta pull and swap swingarms. The project bike has a 190/50-17 on the back.... which means I have to pull the pumpkin to pull the wheel. I'd just as soon swap the whole swingarm especially because mine is normal and the project is painted gunmetal.

And he seems to have done a washer swap, which I've never encountered, so that dropped down in the way when I went to changes axles before pulling the swingarms. Gotta eat before I do any more on this or I'll lose my mind.

If you were my neighbor those spacers would cost you a beer and some chat afterwards. I do agree it comes from a Thundercat. Bolt the calipers and you can get the center by aligning rotors in the calipers slots, tehn you can measure the spacers needed with a caliper/vernier... The ID and OD of those spacers should be the same as the bearings inner races.
