Hey Gary,

Is the GM bar sensor using a 12 volt input and a 5 volt output?, or are you providing it with a 5 volt supply somehow?

I ask because my DJ widband commander has a lot of features, (Boost/Vac/Oil Press/Throttle Pos/) I can't use since it wants 5 Volt reference outputs for sensing, and the Vmax does not have a 5 volt supply to feed 5 volt ref sensors.

I haven't had any luck finding ANY sensor of any type that uses a 12volt ref input and has a 5volt output.

If you found a way around this I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks, Rusty

The ignitech TCI has its own 5v supply pins (pos & ground)

The bar sensor is fed with 5vdc + & - from the TCI and it outputs a varying 5vdc that is fed back to the TCI.

TCIP4 manual attached, has pin out & schematic in it.

My ignitech unit is on its way to a member from here as of this morning.

I am going to probably get the Racer 3 unit that Ignitech has to replace it. It has a nitrous ****** features. Nothing at all was wrong or unhappy with my TCIP4 unit, I just wanted to get the upgrade. I am going in hospital on the 21st to get a disc fixed in my back, so it seemed like a good time to sell mine and get the new one on its way.

Cool, thanks.....

I guess I'm going to have to come up with my own power supply if I want to pursue this.....no big deal tho' just more bells and whistles....the Commander does what it's supposed already, A/F and shift light....TPS would be nice for tuning tho, make the a/f graphs makes more sense than a/f and rpm only.......

Edit, never mind, a simple search comes up with many options for 12 volt 5 volt converter/supplies

Wiring Harness, ECU, Dash or wiring for the newer model. Internal, stator I believe and much more. More than enough to stop it from being cost effective or I would do my 89. I have some of the parts already, from upgrading my 94...

What would it take to convert an 85 max to the 90 max ignition box?
Flywheel, pick up coils,TCI,Wiring Harness, dash cluster or wiring from it,fuel pump relay, turn signal relay. Side stand relay has a diffrent connector but you can just change the connecter. I just finished doing my 89 its a little bit of work.

Why did you need to do the dash cluster or wiring from it,fuel pump relay, turn signal relay. Side stand relay?

Was it due to changing the wiring harness? Would reconfiguring harness eliminate some of this?

It would seem only the rotor, pickup coils & TCI must be changed on the Venture. The wiring harness would be a fairly easy reconfig of just a couple wires. The connector to the pickup coil would be only thing needing changed on the Venture.

I think you would also need to change stator cover, or will single coil pickup fit into the old one?

There is a guy on the Venture site interested in doing this to a 4 pickup coil bike.

They have it wired differently between the year sets. The actual indicators and gauges can be kept but the wire harness and light sockets need either rewired or replaced. I found this out the hard way that everything works except the fuel pump/light if not swapped out.
