That part is what's commonly called the "Y" section. Do a search for many posts about this subject. Best bet is to just shim it up and not remove it.

If you mean the 'Y' on top of the airbox, yes it's been tried and it runs like shit.

Sean recommends shimming it up a little bit.

better off just leaving it alone then, probably not worth the gain of shimming it. Just thought rather than jetting it down, i would give it more air. I was thinking the exhaust would gain enough flow to accomodate more air.

I did a search and couldnt turn anything up?

One of my jet kits would be about as good as your stock engine will need. BUT, you can go one size smaller on your mains and pick up a little too. May not need your needles shimmed (have you tried it without it?).

it required shimming before i ever put the exhaust on, i also found that the bench method of setting my floats was not even close. So i had to reset the floats wet to get it right. It seems my bike is odd compared to others.

Sean your kit will go on it this winter, just too broke right now! Hd oiling kit, shift segment, DD mod, vlve cover gaskets, powder coated valve covers, new tires, 2003 calipers and rotors, 1995 fork assembly with progressive springs, factory backrest, and a mec fork brace all in the last month

I took mine off mine and ran 122 RWHP. It ran clean from down low to redline...

Never once had an issue.

So i tried removing the y intake, with all the above mentioned mods, and it breaks up around 7500 rpms. Of course its fine with the y installed.

So should i just let well enough alone and leave the y inplace, or do i increase the main and or play with needle to run with the y removed. In my reasoning it seems the bike would do better with y removed and properly tuned?

On the dyno it was 1hp and 1torque. Not worth the effort to take the carbs off.
