The storm isn't due to hit south FL until Sunday morning daylight. Packing now.

Most south Floridians will stay locally, just away from the coast.

Miami-Dade County: 4 million
Broward County: 3 million
Palm Beach County: 1.6 million

That's a lot of people to evacuate. I don't blame the ones who are going away though. After 1992's Andrew, there were neighborhoods without power for a month. All the street signs were knocked down, all the traffic lights were down, in south Miami-Dade Co. Thousands of missing windows in the city of Miami and Miami Beach high rises.

New advisory looks bad for Miami area! I75 through Brandon Fl is all backed up from south Fl traffic. Don't wait any longer to leave or you'll be stuck on the roads during a cat 4 storm. Good luck everyone!

If 1/4 of 8.6 million try to leave on the 2 interstates it won't work well, let alone if half leave late.
Lots of thinking on that one, lol. Obviously you've done this and know what to do.

Hoping the best for everyone with a harder right turn.

I've read that this may be worse than Andrew. We can be grateful for the technology that lets us know about these things days in advance. Glad to hear that some of you are going to bolt. Why the **** cant these things hit North Korea instead?

What we had ain't nothing to what you guy's in florida .God bless you all be safe .Were trying to get prepped up here. And god bless texas.

I arrived in Homestead in early November after Andrew, I did roof repairs for those houses left standing where right next door whole houses were gone for the most part. If this storm is stronger I will pray for the best outcome of all stuck in it's path.
Be safe Phillip, Tim, Dave & families, plus all those in S. Florida. I have some friends (Mark and Diane) that work at the Seminole Casino in Hollywood, FL. and they are not planning on leaving until Friday. God speed to all those on move out of the path of Irma.

I saw the traffic leaving the area on the news tonight, it was madness. Palm Beach County alone has twice the population of my entire ******* state. I cant get my brain around the immense population of that area or how even a small fraction could evacuate. So I get that you probably wont be leaving but I sure hope you can get to a shelter if need be. One thing we do know for sure is mother nature aint ******' around and this could potentially be much nastier than Andrew. I'm watching the progress and pulling for you all to stay safe, and to a lesser degree minimal property damage.

Shelters are not what they claim to be. Pack 5000 people in a school with nothing but a cot (literally) and what you can fit in your pockets.. I am way better off at home. Like camping out for me. Only thing I could wish for during anyone I have sat through is something strong enough to knock momma out for a couple days. :) Snow queens first was Mathew. It was interesting. She's much calmer about them now.

Thanks to all my Vmax Brothers and Sisters for your concern. This appears to be one of those Earthly Events that you just can't escape. We still don't know where it will turn North. Running from where we are would be stupid (Half Way Up the West Coast of Florida). If it turns too late we're toast. St Petersburg has never seen anything like this and it should be diminished some when it gets here. Moving up our coast will make Tampa Bay our downfall by filling with water forced by the wind. The water will have no place to go but over the land.

The people I feel sorry for are the young, My Grandchildren are pretty concerned and they're living in a very modern house at 66 ft. elevation.

It will be something to see the damage if we go through this. All of my family is well prepared for about a month of isolation without supply. Others in this area have and will do nothing. They aren't getting my help. I figure it would take a few days for society to break down and we are prepared to deal with that danger.

This is all theoretical at this point. Right now for us the timer is running on a potential disaster. Will it go off or not????????

It's in Gods Hands Completely.....

Dave

The power just died. After Andrew it was two weeks to restore. Getting off the 'net.

Land for sale in sunny Florida, cheap. Lol.

The hole state is screwed at this point. Gotta admit I really thought Tampa area would be ok.
That's what I get for thinking. Just finished boarding up and there's nowhere to go.

Reported ~70 mph winds here now, lots of hard rain, all- ok presently. The eye was hitting Key West at 0700.

Update 0943 hrs EDT: Winds have increased considerably, trees shedding limbs frequently. You can hear the 'cra-a-ck!' sounds. I'm watching from our 10' x 14' sheltered entry. The wind seems to be from the east.
