Key blank - 1st Gen discontinued - ?

Apparently, they discontinued the key blank for the 1st Gen. Any sources out there?

I'd think any decent locksmith should be able to fix you up. I know the first thing I do when I buy some vehicle/motorcycle is visit a locksmith shop I've been using for > 40 years, and if they don't have it, they can order it, a spare key. They have made me a key if I bring in a lock cylinder too (no key at time of purchase).

Tried to enter my location when I joined forum last week, but I am not seeing where I can enter that. I'm in Littleton, CO

Got mine off eBay and took it to the hardware store to get it cut. I screwed up the first time and got an "invert key" - Top was thicker than the bottom, or something like that. The point is I needed to pay better attention to the picture.

I wasted like $4. Keep telling the wife I need another bike to put under the key. She'll have none of that!

Discontinued, but not obsolete. A bit of internet diligence can find you what you are looking for. Like Redrum states...take an existing key to make sure your key looks like what you plan on buying.

Yep, found a fella that could make copies of my bags and ignition for a very reasonable fee. Dude was like the keymaster from the matrix

Did both of the Fleabay keys indicate Yamaha? When you received the keys, did they come in Yamaha packaging? I bought a Gen 2 key that had a red top instead of the black. I was a bit skeptical cause it indicated Yamaha but didnt have a part number. When I received the key, it came in an unopened Yamaha package. It cut fine and works well in my bike and its currently my backup key.

If you want to be absolutely certain you can pull the switch and get the code off of it. Frankly, I always just go to Ace Hardware. They've never failed to make any key for any bike I've ever owned, including my '07 Vmax.

Frankly, I wouldn't order dog **** from Ebay. I avoid that place like the plague.

I got the key from this seller on eBay for $5.25

..... and I think $3 or $4 for the hardware store to cut it.

Sometimes it doesn't have to be expensive
